Diego Luna as Cassian Andor in Andor (2022)

Thefirst three episodes ofAndorSeason 1: “Kassa”, “That Would Be Me”, and “Reckoning” are now available as complimentary watches onStar Wars’main YouTube channel. It’s nice to see Disney-Star Warshitting a strong, confident stride for a change.AfterThe Acolytereceived a mixed reception in 2024, the Lucasfilmbrand was bruised once again, further distancing fans from the franchise and dividing audiences. In a quieter year, it seems that all viewers, casual and ever-faithful, are finally getting to rally behind a program that has becomeStar Wars’flagship streaming production.

This Season 1 Recap coupled with the inceptive trio of episodes really showcases Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) journey since the beginning of the series.Luthen’s (Stellan Skarsgard) wordsin the Special Look trailer ring even more true after this handy rewatch: “We are not who we were when we started”. This is a very apt encapsulation of Season 1’s overarching narrative, delivered by a character that knows more than most about what it takes to change hearts and minds in this brutal era of the galaxy. The Season 1 Recap opens with Andor gunning down two soldiers from the Corporate Tactical Forces, even as one begs for his life. This cold, survivalist streak has been a signature of Luna’s portrayal throughout the show. Other characters were always quick to judge him, like Vel Sartha (Faye Marsay), who dubbed him a “mercenary”.

Now, in clips released in the Special Look trailer for Season 2, fans can catch Cassian defending his reputation and legacy from Luthen, who dismisses his efforts: “You’re thinking like a thief”. Cassian aggressively hits back: “I’m thinking like a soldier”, showing just how far this fledgling rebel has come. He adamantly declares his faith in the rebel cause:

“Everything I did. I did for the Rebellion.”

Andor’srecap also refocuses its viewers' attention on the show’s nerve-wracking, underlying tensions. All parts of theStar Warsgalaxy are suffocated by its current political climate in Season 1. The people of Ferrix are repressed by an ever-increasing Imperial presence. Mon Mothma has to calculatingly choose every word she says, as she sits at the veryheart of the galaxy’s authoritarian government, who survey her every move. But it also shows how its antagonists are constantly pushed down by a stifling Imperial bureaucracy.

Disney has offered audiences a great chance forStar Warsfans without a streaming subscription to familiarize themselves with how it all began for Cassian and see the spark which ignited so many personal revolutions. Be sure to catch the first three episodes of Season 1 on YouTube, available to watch right now.
