Summary
Four titles made by renowned developerInsomniac Gameshave been delisted with no warning.Insomniac Gamesis one of the most revered developers in the industry, having built an impressive library of critically-acclaimed games since being founded in 1994. Insomniac’s first game was the well-reviewedDisruptoron PS1, which was followed by the originalSpyro the Dragontrilogy, many belovedRatchet & Clankgames, theResistancefirst-person shooter franchise on PS3, the action-packedSunset Overdrive, theSpider-Mangames, and a variety of other titles.
Most of Insomniac’s games have earned positive reviewsand are well-regarded by the gaming community. Luckily, the vast majority of the company’s library is readily available to play on modern platforms thanks to backward compatibility, remasters, and the like. Unfortunately, four games from Insomniac have now been delisted from digital storefronts.
Seemingly without warning, Insomniac Games' four virtual reality titles have been delisted.Insomniac was one of the earliest supporters of Oculus Rift, releasingEdge of Nowhere,The Unspoken, andFeral Ritesfor the platform in 2016. Insomniac then releasedStormlandin 2019. Unfortunately, it seems all of Insomniac’s VR games have now been delisted, and no statement has been made explaining exactly why that is. It’s possible that the games will return at some point down the line, but no plans to that effect have actually been announced at the time of this writing.
Delisted Insomniac Games Titles
Most of Insomniac’s VR games were released prior toSony’s acquisition of the studio, with the one exception being 2019’sStormland. PlayStation itself has a vested interest in the virtual reality market with its PlayStation VR headset for the PS4 and the newer PlayStation VR2 for the PS5. PlayStation VR2 sales have not lived up to expectations, and so game development for the headset seems to have slowed a bit. Maybe the plan is to re-release Insomniac’s VR games on PlayStation VR2 to give the platform a boost, but that’s just speculation at this time. For all we know, Insomniac’s VR games will stay delisted forever, so fans of the studio should keep that possibility in mind.
Right now, Insomniac Games is busy making theWolverinePS5 game. Leaks have suggested that a standaloneVenomvideo game is also in the pipeline, withX-Mentitles andSpider-Man 3further out. Luckily, Insomniac’s console games shouldn’t be at risk of getting delisted. Still, it’s a shame that any of Insomniac’s titles have been delisted, and it would be great to see them return in some capacity.
