Right now, the future of thePersonaseries is in limbo. Atlus has begun teasingPersona 6over the past few years, and there’s still no sign of it. That seems to be because the usualPersonadevelopers have split up to work onPersona 3 Reload, as P-Studio, andMetaphor: ReFantazio, as Studio Zero.Metaphorgave fans a similar, yet distinct, take on the series’ usual elements, whilePersona 3 Reloadhelped refine a fan favorite.Persona 5: The Phantom Xis also coming to mobile and PC soon in some regions, but that’s all the Persona projects in sight.
Or, it was all the knownPersonaprojects, right up until very recently. A web domain, p4re.jp, was noted byPersonaYouTuber @ScrambledFaz to have been registered on July 24, 2025, suggesting that aPersona 4remake could be in the works. Faz and otherPersonafans cited the registration of p3re.jp on June 16, 2025, just three months beforePersona 3 Reloadwas announced, as evidence for this conclusion.P3Rlaunched in February 2024, so even accounting for Atlus refining its development pipeline through the prior project, there’s a good chance thatPersona 4was always meant to follow inPersona 3’s footsteps.
The Time Has Come For A Persona 4 Remake
Aside from paralleling the timeline leading up toPersona 3 Reloadbeing revealed at the June 2023 Xbox presentation, the vibe of an approachingPersona 4remake does feel like it’s in the air.Persona 3andPersona 4are considered the turning point where thePersonaseries leapfrogged itsShin Megami Tenseiparent to become Atlus’ most popular RPG franchise. Althoughfans ofPersona 1and2would appreciate their gamesbeing given equivalent treatment,P3andP4are an ideal age for direct remakes on current hardware, so they may as well be updated for modern audiences.
Remastered ports ofPersona 3 PortableandPersona 4 Goldenlaunched for all platforms in January 2023, althoughPersona 4 Goldenlanded on PC first in 2020. The proximity ofP3P’s release toP3R’s website registration and announcement made it feel likePersona 3was getting a year in the spotlight, and it even got an extension on that when The Answer, abonus story mode fromPersona 3 FES, was released as DLC in September 2024. It’s about time forPersona 4to get similar treatment, even if its additionalGoldencontent can’t as easily be extracted for DLC.
Persona 4’s Remake Could Follow The Same Trail P3R Blazed
If the p4re.jp website is what it looks like, an announcement for aPersona 4remake, either sharing theReloadmoniker or using another “Re-” word, should be coming in June 2025. Late May has become the unofficial start of the summer showcase season, and both Atlus and Sega as a whole have shown a preference for revealing their games at Xbox shows over the past few years.WhetherPersona 4is in need of a remakeis another subject entirely, but given howPersona 3 Reloadwent, it could benefit from one.
What A Persona 4 Remake Can Learn From Persona 3 Reload
ThePersona 4remake could become the definitive version of the game if it receives new features and extra polish likePersona 3 Reloaddid.P4’s already-strong battle system could getP3R’s Shift mechanicand Theurgy ultimate attacks. New portraits and voice lines in and out of battles would compliment the redone models, and unvoiced scenes from oldPersona 4releases should be changed in the process. IfPersona 4’s remake also inheritsPersona 3 Reload’s extra character sidestories and other activities, it could reclaim its status as a must-play RPG for new and old players alike.
