As players ofHelldivers 2continue to work towards the goal of galactic freedom, so too is Arrowhead by providing content that will aid in their efforts. The studio has recently releasedHelldivers 2’s Borderline Justice Warbond, which offers powerful equipment that one would expect from content that requires purchasing with Super Credits. While its weapons and cosmetics are the main features, what is truly intriguing is its western cowboy theme. Because of how great it’s seemingly doing, Arrowhead may want to consider a particular move that may find the same success or even more.
Helldivers 2’s Borderline Justice Warbond has shown that the western cowboy theme is popular among the game’s fans, presenting Arrowhead with an opportunity. The developer could work towards doing a crossover withRed Dead Redemption, a popular title by Rockstar Games whose entire theme and narrative revolves around the Wild West period. If it were to happen, the move would certainly attract the attention of many while also producing content forHelldivers 2that may help enhance its overall quality.
Much like whenHelldivers 2did a crossover withKillzone, one might expect a crossover withRed Dead Redemptionto provide the game with many interesting pieces of content. Such content could feasibly include:
While the work towards guaranteeing a crossover withRed Dead Redemptionmay be difficult, especially when considering if Rockstar Games might even be against the idea, it would still be a worthwhile effort for Arrowhead.
If a potential crossover did happen, Arrowhead could always choose to follow the steps it took with the oneHelldivers 2did withKillzone. However, the developer could take the idea further, with a good way to do that being to add skins that could completely change the look of certain in-game transportation. For example,Helldivers 2’s Fast Recon Vehiclecould be given a cosmetic that alters it to look like what one would find during the period in whichRed Dead Redemption 2took place—though a carriage pulled by horses in space may be a tough pill to swallow in terms of immersion.
A crossover withRed Dead Redemptionmay not have made it onto many players' wish lists orexpectations for Helldivers 2 in 2025, but the Borderline Justice motif certainly makes a case for such a crossover to occur, regardless of how unlikely it may be to come to fruition. Either way, it will be interesting to see if more comes from this outlaw gunslinger theme inHelldivers 2in the future.
