Summary
The Boysis coming to an end, and while viewers are excited to see which of its stars will take their special brand of experience at superhero shows to less bloody waters, one fan-favorite isn’t too keen on making the jump.
The Boyshas cemented its place in popular culture, taking superhero comic book characters not from DC or Marvel and making them mainstream at a time when the big two companies were trudging through an ongoing bout of genre fatigue. It became clear from the very first season thatThe Boyswas probablythe best live-action show based on a comic book, a fact made even more impressive by just how immensely the show manages to improve on the source material before leaving it behind entirely to pursue better storylines. Some of the most potent of these centered on the show’s main antagonist, Homelander.
WhileThe Boys’showrunner fears the final season will go down likeGame of Thronesand fans worry about where to get their gore fix after the show wraps, the show’s stars are probably more concerned with moving on to other projects. Unfortunately for fans, everyone’s favorite villain from the hit show has no intentions of making the obvious move to the biggest mainstream player in the genre. As revealed in a recent post byAustin Medeiros on X, Antony Starr has no interest in taking his talents to the House of Ideas after his time as Homelander comes to a (hopefully brutally painful) close. The post, which reads, “I asked Antony Starr if he would join the MCU and he said: ‘Nah I’m a little too old for that,’” features a photo of Medeiros with 49-year-old Starr (presumably from when the question was asked), and eagle-eyed fans will notice thatThe Boysstar is wearing fittingly “bloodstained” trousers.
The Boys' Antony Starr Isn’t Looking To Join Another Franchise Any Time Soon
Sorry DC And Marvel Fans… Looks Like A No-Go
While that answer was pretty straightforward and doesn’t really give a lot of hope for fans who want to see the star in a Marvel project, it’s not like Starr isn’t a fan of the franchise’s stellar performances. The original post was quickly followed by another one that confirmed this fact, saying “I asked Antony Starr if he would play the new Norman Osborn/ Green Goblin in the MCU and he said: ‘I COULD DO THAT! But Willem Dafoe did a great job so maybe not.’” No one can argue with the legendary work that Dafoe put in as the Green Goblin during the Sam RaimiSpider-Mantrilogy and more recently inNo Way Home, and Starr himself will likely be receiving the same sort of praise again soon for his work onThe Boys.Starr has done such a standout job of bringing Homelander to life thathe’s had to admonish fans who openly admire the characterdespite his clearly villainous inclinations.
The BoysspinoffGen Vwas a success as well, leading to the show being renewed for a second season back in 2023, which will likely be dropping sometime soon on Prime Video. There’s sure to be some crossover with characters fromThe Boysmainline cast, as members of theGen Vstable are quite closely integrated into the final season. Viewers can also look forward toVought Risingbringing back fan favorites Jenson Ackles and Aya Cash, the latter of whom hasmade some big promises about the upcoming prequel series. As for what’s next for Starr, fans can bet he’ll be in pretty high demand coming off such a spirited performance. Whatever he does do next, it’ll probably be his pick of the lot and he deserves it.
The Boysis available to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video platform, with season five set to premiere on the streamer in 2026.
