Ark: Survival Evolveddeveloper Studio Wildcard has shared a much-needed update for the game’s highly anticipated sequel,ARK 2. Alongside the reveal of a new expansion forArk: Survival Ascended, which is a remaster of the original 2015 title, Studio Wildcard announced that the DLC will not only bridge the gap betweenARK: ExtinctionandARK: Genesis, but will also lead directly into the world ofARK 2.
Five years after the early access release ofArk: Survival Evolved,Studio Wildcard revealedARK 2at The Game Awards 2020, featuring a CGI trailer withFast and Furiousstar Vin Diesel. The sequel is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and was initially scheduled to launch in 2023, three years after its reveal. However,ARK 2has been hit with multiple delays since its announcement, and there’s currently no confirmed release date for the sequel. With very little information being shared by Studio Wildcard, fans had begun to grow increasingly worried thatARK 2had been canceled. But, thanks to an upcoming DLC, we now know that’s not the case.
Studio Wildcard Shares Update on ARK 2
On March 18, Studio Wildcard revealedARK: Lost Colony, anew DLC expansion forArk: Survival Ascendedthat is set to launch in November 2025 and will feature the voice of Acadamy Award winner Michelle Yeoh. According to the expansion’s official description,Lost Colonydirectly connects the storylines ofARK: ExtinctionandARK: Genesis,two DLCs that were originally released forArk: Survival Evolvedin 2018 and 2019, respectively.Lost Colonyalso “leads into the events ofARK 2,” according to Studio Wildcard. The developer alsotook to Twitterto reaffirm to fans that it remains “entirely dedicated” to the production ofArk: Survival AscendedandARK 2.
The last major piece of news surroundingARK 2was back in 2023 when Studio Wildcard revealed it would not be releasing the title in its planned release window.ARK 2was delayed to late 2024 (of course, this window also wasn’t met) alongsidethe reveal ofArk: SurvivalAscended. The remastered version ofArk: Survival Evolvedwould go on to be massively controversial for a variety of reasons, even receiving mixed reviews on Steam due to its performance issues. When the remaster was initially announced, Studio Wildcard also revealed a bundle known asArk: Respawned, which would includeArk: Survival Ascendedand the yet-to-be-releasedARK 2. The bundle would eventually be scrapped due to backlash from the community.
Despite very little information on the sequel being revealed by Studio Wildcard,ARK 2remains in Steam’s top ten most wishlisted games, alongside the likes ofHollow Knight: Silksong,Subnautica 2,Borderlands 4, and many more. Sadly, its release date remains a mystery. But for those looking to get theirArkfix,Lost Colonywill be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in November 2025, with pre-orders set for June and exclusive preview gameplay content also available alongside the pre-orders.
