One of the biggest games in recent memory,Baldur’s Gate 3has undoubtedly shaken up the video game landscape as a whole. It’s no surprise that both casual players, fans of the games, and critics are eagerly anticipating a sequel toBaldur’s Gate 3. Though a follow-up of equal size, scope, and magnitude is ages away, gamers may want to keep their eyes and ears peeled for updates on the hypothetical title.

Prior toBaldur’s Gate 3, several titles cemented themselves in the franchise as sequels or expansions, but many players considerBaldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amnto be the true second installment in the franchise, withBaldur’s Gate 3filling the third slot.Shadows of Amnwas released in 2000, leaving twenty-three years between the two titles.Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, the most recentBaldur’s Gatetitle beforeBG3that held the franchise’s name, was released in 2016. Sure, this release date closes the gap to only seven years, but that’s still a significant amount of time between sequels. It would make sense for fans to be discouraged aboutBaldur’s Gate 4coming anytime soonwith the franchise’s development and corporate history, but Hasbro may have other plans.

Hasbro Confirms It Still Has Plans for Baldur’s Gate

Hasbro seems to be dropping hints about the franchise, though they don’t seem tied toa hypotheticalBaldur’s Gate 4. Larian Studios was the heart ofBaldur’s Gate 3’s success, but the studio says it’s moving on from the IP, leaving both fans and critics restless as to which developer will collaborate with Hasbro next.

Fortunately, it seems that Hasbro has a long list of studios eager to try their hand at the project. At the 2025 Game Developer’s Conference, IGN spoke with Hasbro SVP of digital games Dan Ayoub aboutBaldur’s Gate.In Ayoub’s own words, “a lot of people” are interested in the franchise, with Hasbro already detailing plans forBaldur’s Gate’s future. Ayoub continues that “…in pretty short order, we’re going to have some stuff to talk about around that,” in reference toBaldur’s Gate. This might not be particularly detailed information, but it’s definitive proof thatBaldur’s Gateis at the forefront and not sitting on the back burner, even if the franchise’s next project isn’tBaldur’s Gate 4.

News from Hasbro on Baldur’s Gate 4

Even though the plans Ayoub mentionedaren’tBaldur’s Gate 4, the Hasbro SVP of digital games still discussed the hypothetical sequel briefly in this conversation with IGN. Ayoub confirmed thatBaldur’s Gate 4is a project both he, and Hasbro at large, want. Despite this, it seems that Hasbro will be taking a measured approach so that the highly anticipated sequel can meet its gargantuan expectations. Still, Ayoub continued to reiterate that Hasbro has “got a lot of plans” forBaldur’s Gatedespite not wanting to “over-tease” these likely early stage ideas.

Baldur’s Gate’s next developer will not only have huge shoes to fill when it comes to expanding the franchise’s immersion, its gameplay, and other mechanics, but the nextBaldur’s Gatetitle still needsto maintain a cohesive story fromBaldur’s Gate 3and its predecessors. While there are many developers that are up to the challenge, it’s unlikely that all of them will be able to create a game as rich as Larian’s version. Players should continue to have hope forBaldur’s Gate 4, and get excited about the projects Hasbro has in store for the franchise, butBaldur’s Gate 4is still years away.
