Summary

EA has revealed a new limited-time event coming toBattlefield 2042, named War Machine, which offers a futuristic AI spin on one of the franchise’s most popular game modes. Although EA ended seasonal support forBattlefield 2042last year, that doesn’t seem to have stopped developer DICE from being able to add smaller updates and events to the game, helping keep the remaining playerbase satisfied.

It can be said that the franchise’s large-scale 64v64 multiplayer battles have historically been the main draw of theBattlefieldseries, and DICE has done well at adding different types of modes within that 128-player framework. WhileConquest has largely beenBattlefield’s bread and butter, having players fight over different zones spread across the map, Rush has become one of the more popular side modes. In Rush, one team must plant explosive bombs while the other team tries to disarm them before they go off, losing them their territory.

Now, DICE has come up with a new twist onBattlefield 2042’s Rush modecoming as part of the new War Machine event. The event begins March 18 and will run until April 15. Furthermore, a 30-tier event pass will offer the new AN-94 weapon alongside a smattering of new specialist and weapon skins, among other items. Perhaps the most noteworthy addition coming as part of the War Machine event is the new Override mode. Described byBattlefieldas a 4v28 PvE battle, Override will have players face relentless AI robots as they try to plant explosive bombs.

Battlefield 2042’s New Override Mode is a Twist on Rush

ConsideringBattlefield 2042’s near-futuristic aesthetic, it makes perfect sense that rogue AI machines would be added as enemies in a PvE mode like Override. This isn’t the first timeBattlefield 2042players have seen a PvE mode, as smaller limited-time modes have seen teams of players face off against AI-controlled enemies throughout the game’s post-launch life. These modes have typically been smaller in scale with lower player lobbies, and that seems to be the case again for the War Machine event’s Override mode. Time will tell whetherBattlefield 2042players enjoy Override enough that it returns in the future.

With anall-newBattlefieldgame currently in development at DICE, and seemingly right around the corner, judging by the recent closed playtest leaks, it’s nice to see thatBattlefield 2042is still seeing some form of support in the name of a short limited-time event, even after the game’s seasonal support cycle ended last year. With the nextBattlefieldbringing gamers back to the modern day, there will undoubtedly be some fans who still preferBattlefield 2042’s futuristic setting. It’ll be interesting to see whetherBattlefield 2042is still getting new events once the nextBattlefieldentry is launched.
