Summary
Though the originalNarutoseries already had plenty of eye-catching and memorable character designs,Boruto, which follows the adventures of the Hokage’s hot-headed son, is a lot different from a visual perspective. While the ninja aesthetic has still been kept intact, theBorutoseries has a noticeably different art style from what fans came to be accustomed to withNaruto, appearing a lot more vibrant, modern, and stylish, with the characters being a prime example of this.
Whether it’s the new kids on the block or iconic legends of the series, there are many characters seen throughout theBorutostory who boast incredible designs which effortlessly manage to convey a lot about their personality and powers. Illustrator Mikio Ikemoto has proven that he’s more than capable of conjuring up some very memorable and eye-catching character designs, with these being among the very best of the series.
8Shino Aburame
Naruto’s Longtime Friend, Shino, Gains A Quirky And Futuristic Design In Boruto’s Story
Though Shino wasn’t a character who received muchscreentimein the originalNarutoseries, many fans would remember him most for his shady appearance where he would conceal most of his face with his collar. When he appears inBoruto, Shino has a much more open and confident appearance, though he can now be seen wearing a futuristic visor to compliment his vision.
While many of Naruto’s friends received design changes to reflect their growth and maturity, Shino went through an entire overhaul. Just from a glance, fans of theNarutoseries will know exactly who this is thanks to the glasses, and the two small bugs on Shino’s collar, emphasizing his unique Jutsu abilities and clan. While it would have been nice to have seen even more of these small additions added to his outfit, this is still a great appearance nonetheless.
7Kashin Koji
Koji Mimics The Appearance Of A Series Icon, With A Few Extra Details Thrown In
If Koji’s appearance looks somewhat familiar, it’s because the dangerous Kaya member was designed to be a clone ofthe legendary Sanin, Jiraiya. While Koji shares the same white hair and facial structure, the spiked silver mask, alongside the black markings surrounding his eyes, are enough to present him as his own person, rather than looking exactly the same as his inspiration.
Koji almost always has a very stern and cold expression on his face, making it hard to ever deduce what he’s plotting beneath the surface. Koji’s outfit may not be all that flashy, but a lot can be gathered about the character from his face alone, which is something that only the best of the best illustrators can pull off effectively.
6Mitsuki
Endearing Yet Mischievous, There’s No Mistaking That Mitsuki Is Orochimau’s Son
Mitsuki’s sharp snake-like eyes look like they are able to pierce the souls of anyone who stands in the young ninja’s way, which is very reminiscent of his father,Orochimaru. Another subtle nod to Mitsuki’s lineage is his pale skin, though thanks to the light blue hair and kimono, he’s far from a complete copycat of his old man.
Before fans even learn of Mitsuki’s parentage, it’s clear that something is always a little off about him, as if he’s hiding something behind the devious smile, which is a testament to just how intriguing the design really is. Mitsuki’s appearance is both a callback to a classic character in the series, and an entirely new design which stands out for how eerie and unique it is compared to the rest of the cast.
5Sasuke Uchiha
Sasuke Retains His Signature Dark Aesthetic As Part Of This New Badass Appearance
Sasuke is the kind of guy who doesn’t need to go above and beyond with his fashion sense to look cool, and inBoruto, he opts for a much more minimalistic look. Sasuke as a character has always been synonymous with black clothing and darkness in general, so to keep in line with this, Ikemoto gave the Uchiha a pitch-black robe to conceal his weapons, alongside his hair not being a little longer to cover one of his eyes.
This might seem like a trendy fashion choice, but it’s symbolic of the hidden power that Sasuke tries to keep hidden;the Rinnegan. It’s truly badass to see Sasuke take on this roguish look, and it feels like a natural evolution of the style that he’s always been known for by the fans.
4Delta
Delta Steals Every Scene She’s In Thanks To Her Sharp And Stylish Design
Delta has one of the most vibrant and flashy designs of the new characters introduced inBoruto, especially when compared to herKara comrades. Delta’s appearance stands out a lot thanks to the bright medley of colors which makes her instantly recognizable. With blonde hair, bright red eyes, and a dark green bodysuit, Delta certainly knows how to show up to a battle in style.
Early on in the series, she can always be seen rocking a long dark cape, referencing her close affiliation with Kaya, along with a mean scowl that never leaves her face, showing that she’s not a foe to be taken lightly. Delta’s design does a good job at conveying her hot-headed and rebellious personality, while also featuring small details that show how her body has been made up of Ninja Tools, such as her mechanical white boots, for example.
3Code
An Eerily Intimidating Look For One Of Boruto’s Toughest Opponents
There’s a lot to love about Code’smenacing design. Whether it’s the long black trench coat, the wild orange hair, or the Claw Mark that wraps around his face like a spiked belt. It feels as though Code’s appearance has just enough to emphasize his dark and calculated personality without needing to go too over the top in its presentation.
Code’s attire changes a few times throughout the series, though he always tends to wear something that gives off a very civilized and professional vibe which obscures the more vicious side of his character. Code is a character who can fill an entire room with fear just from his appearance alone, which is a testament to just how effective of a design he has.
2Kawaki
Kawaki Embodies The More Modernized Aesthetic Of Boruto
Considering the series is literally named after him, it makes sense thatBorutowould be the major focus of the story, but another character who receives a ton of screentime is Kawaki. This is far from a bad thing though, considering how effortlessly stylish this guy is; always managing to show-up Boruto with his fashionable short-sides haircut, face markings, and high-collar blue jacket, which he always grabs before leaving the house for a new mission.
A nice added touch is how Kawaki will always decide to wear his Ninja headband around his neck rather than his head, showcasing his cool and casual demeanor, alongside his looseaffiliation with Konoha. Of course, there’s also the signals of him being a Karma-user splashed across his face whenever he decides to activate his true power, which act as a haunting reminder of his tragic upbringing. Kawaki has the look of an anti-hero, and while Ikemoto could have gone even further in this direction, he is still a character whose captivating design embodies the more modernized aesthetic of theBorutoseries.
1Eida
Ikemoto Decided To Flex His Creative Muscles When Designing The Immensely Powerful Eida
When it comes to the originalBorutocharacter designs, Ikemoto tends to love showing off his love for fashion and style, and this applies more to Eida than anyone else. Eida is an incredibly fashionable ninja who has become most well-known for her long blue and pink hair which reaches all the way down to her legs before looping back around. Her black skirt is decorated with small glistening stars and planets which feed into her otherwordly persona and strength, and there are plenty of other small details like these to look out for.
Her shiny aqua earrings, for example, are an incredibly eye-catching part of her outfit that can only be seen every now and again, and that’s just one example of the numerous ornaments that help Eida’s design stand out as much as possible. Fun, vibrant, and all so memorable, Eida’s design is a real jaw-dropper which many fans have come to adore ever since it first showed up in the series.
