Summary
Elden Ring Nightreignwillfeature a new style of gameplayto the franchise, and like other FromSoft games, Bosses will take a core part. Boss encounters inNightreignare randomized at the start of each run, with minor bosses roaming the region during the day. A powerful boss appears at the end of each night in the 3-day cycle.
Most of these bosses will be ones seen inElden Ring, as well as returning ones from previous FromSoft installments. While there could be others to return, these are the confirmed returning bosses who stand as the most exciting threats inNightreign.
10Sanguine Noble
The Lord of Blood’s Assassin
While the Sanguine Noble is an optional boss and hidden away beneath the Writheblood Ruins inElden Ring, their inclusion fits intoMohg, Lord of Blood’s loreinShadow of the Erdtree. The Sanguine Noble is one of many assassins that serve the Lord of Blood and share the gospel of accursed blood. Due to this, they are known to be deadly with their daggers and strike from pools of blood.
All of the Sanguine Noble’s attacks affect bleed, including the pools they leave behind, making them slippery and a challenge to hit at a close range. Teamwork between multiple ranges of attack would be essential in avoiding the overwhelming bleed damage.
9Godskin Noble
The Voluminous Black Flame Apostle
The large Godskin Noble of the Godskin Duo is set to return, complete with its heaping flaps of skin, massive rapier, and black magic flames. Despite its size, the Godskin Noble is fast and deals great damage, able to break poise through a rapid stab attack.
It frequentlyuses black flame magicto clear the area around it, and bloating up into a ball to roll around like a wheel, trampling everything in its path. This is another great boss for a co-op scenario, as the Godskin Noble is capable of covering a lot of ground.
8Golden Hippopotamus
The Gold Thorned Beast
The Golden Hippopotamus was a heftysurprise at the entrance of Shadow KeepinShadows of the Erdtree, and will roll onto the scene again inNightreign. This boss relies on its mighty bite and bulky head, often charging with its mouth wide open and slamming everything in its path.
At half HP, the boss generates its iconic golden thorns on its back and head. After this, every attack from belly slams to thrashing charges have extra range. The chaotic nature of fighting an ancient angry hippopotamus is sure to provide a fun challenge for players.
7Draconic Tree Sentinel
Guardian of the Erdtree
The Draconic Tree Sentinel that guards the Capital Outskirts will now take on players inNightreign, only this time accompanied by two Royal Cavalrymen. The trio of horsemen will offer a unique challenge, as players will no longer have access to Torrent to equalize the battlegrounds.
The Draconic Tree Sentinel is known for his massive hammer, draconic lightning magic, and adept use of his steed, which eventually spews fireballs. TheDraconic Tree Sentinel is a challengeon his own already, as his poise is high due to his heavy armor and frequent use of his shield, and his second phase will test the strength of players and their ability to dodge his nuke-sized lightning waves.
6Leonine Misbegotten
A Crimson Feral Warrior
Leonine Misbegotten is a feral humanoid with beastly features, wielding alarge greatsword and capable of high speeds. This boss is aggressive, and moves so fast that a lot of magic spells and ranged attacks are difficult to land. It leaps around and finishes its dashes with wide swings of its sword, and occasionally roars, damaging and staggering all nearby.
In a co-op setting, this boss can be fun with how fast it moves and how much ground it covers. Melee players should work in order to keep the boss distracted while casters throw some damage from afar.
5Ancient Dragon
Rulers of the Prehistoric Era
There are many dragons in the FromSoft games, but the prime dragons are seen inElden Ring. These prehistoric Dragonlords roam fields or guard important passageways throughout the world, and offer hair-raising battles to fight. It’s only fitting that Ancient Dragons make a comeback inNightreign.
The Ancient Dragon boss will resemble a fight similar toAncient Dragon Senessax, a powerful foe fromShadow of the Erdtree. It will charge itself up with lightning energy, conjuring lightning bolts in its hand to stab at the ground and create waves of red lightning.
4The Duke’s Dear Freja
A Monstrous Two-Headed Spider
The Duke’s Dear Freja is the only boss fromDark Souls 2confirmed so far, as seen in promotional materials. She’s a monstrous two-headed spider with magical abilities and acidic spit. A unique mechanic in the original fight is one of her heads can be severed, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out inNightreign.
There’s a chance she also has her iconic spider swarms surrounding her.InDark Souls 2, the best way to combat the spider army is with torch light, and it’s unknown if torches will make a comeback as an equipable item, so this boss and surrounding swarm may be a tough cooperative battle.
3The Fell Omen
Horrifying Lord of Leyndell
Margit, The Fell Omen will returnin the form of Morgott, master of Bloodflame magic. The Fell Omen creates a hostile environment by spamming holy magic attacks at a distance, and below 50% health, erupts cursed blood on the ground.
Knowing that some bosses may invade during the day, facing The Fell Omen in the midst of travelling to Limveld will prove a fun challenge. His massive AoE attacks and speed will certainly throw a wrench in plans to survive the three-day cycle.
2Centipede Demon
The Flaming Lava Walker
The Centipede Demon from the firstDark Soulswill make a flaming comeback. When first encountered inDark Souls, one major obstacle in facing this boss was the lava environment. Perhaps like the Magma Wyrm fromElden Ring, the Centipede Demon could manipulate the battlefield by spilling pools of lava.
This large bug-like creature is known for its arms and tails acting as separate living centipedes, swinging its body around in a chaotic fashion. Standing too close to this boss may cause him to grab players and shove them into his toothy chest, dealing great damage. This boss feels like the perfect precursor to many enemies seen inElden Ring, so it should fit well intoNightreign.
1The Nameless King
God King of the Storm
The Nameless King was seen in early promotional materials forElden Ring Nightreign, and may be the most challengingDark Souls 3boss confirmed to return to the skies. This boss isknown as King of the Storm, a god of war who sacrificed everything to ally himself with the ancient dragons, and is seen flying upon his feathery wyvern.
The power of this boss not only lies in his combination of rider and wyvern, but in his powerful attacks after the wyvern is defeated. During his second phase, he looms tall above the player, and deals massive amounts of damage with his lightning spear. He will make for an epic fight to take on with the fresh mechanics ofElden Ring Nightreign.
