Summary

InMonster Hunter Wilds, the goal is to do as the title says. Hunt monsters. With a whole host ofnew monsters to fight, the initial way of slaying them is the most straightforward path, with a little bit more supplies likeTranq Bomband either aShock TraporPitfall Trap, players can capture monsters.

For the added effort of collecting all the materials necessary to make both Tranq Bombs (Sleep Herb+Parashroom) and traps (Trap Tool+Net, orThunderbug Capacitor), and trapping the monster is some bonus materials. It is worth noting, however, that players should capture the monster whose gear they want the most for those sweet, sweet extra materials.

Spoilers ahead for the main story and post-credits content of Monster Hunter Wilds!

Chatacabra Jaw +

Chatacabra Certificate S

The journey always starts somewhere. Chatacabra will be the first monster the player fights as atutorial monster. Chatacabra is a pretty easy monster as a result, telegraphing its moves very well and not being too much of a pain to fight.

Its armor is also pretty good for a starter kit, having a few support skills in Level 3 Speed Eating (consumes items faster) and Level 2 Item Prolonger (extends item durations). With the High Rank version of the armor getting up to Level 3 Item Prolonger, plus 2 levels each in Wide Range (certain items used affect nearby allies) and Weakness Exploit (increased Affinity on monster’s weak points).

Monster Broth

Lala Barina Certificate S

Lala Barina is the first Temnoceran monster that players will encounter in the Scarlet Forest. Unlike a couple of monsters the player may have hunted previously, Lala Barina is a quick, nimble, and sometimes hard-to-hit monster, especially with melee weapons.

Alongside the regular monster parts and materials, Barina also dropsMonster Fluid, which is a crafting material used in both the Lala Barina set of equipment and the Bone set of equipment, making it a sought-after resource until a more reliable source of it comes along.

Congalala Certificate S

Beast Gem

Congalala is a vibrantly colored Fanged Beast that lives in the Scarlet Forest. Congalala is sometimes surrounded by its pack of Congas, which are smaller versions of the bigger Congalala, which can provide an extra bit of difficulty if the Congas aren’t dealt with.

For the armor set, Congalala’s has a shocking amount of Equipment Skills available to it. In Low Rank, it only gets Mushroommancer (consumes mushrooms and gain their effects) and Stench Resistance (gives protection to Stench debuff). However, the High Rank version of the Congalala armor also gets Intimidator (decreased chance of monster attacking player), Burst (successive attack hits grant stat bonuses), Free Meal (chance to not consume item), and Speed Eating. Congalala can beeasily farmed, and the player can get a ton of materials.

Uth Duna Plate

Uth Duna Watergem

Being the first Apex monster the player gets to fight, Uth Duna gear is a pretty strong option to go for when players get the chance. The armor gets one of the historically best skills in Peak Performance, which increases attack power when the player is at full health. It also gets Tool Specialist, which decreases the cooldown for the various mantles the player gets later on.

Although not technically capturable the first chance the player gets to fight it, Uth Duna is one of the easier Apex monsters the player can fight. Being one of thebiggest monsters, traps are fairly easy to place under Uth Duna.

Rey Dau Certificate S

Rey Dau Fulgurtalon

Rey Dau may already be a familiar face to those players who participated in either of the twoMonster Hunter Wildsopen beta test periods before the game’s release. Being another Apex monster, Rey Dau hits like a truck and is relentless.

The armor set for Rey Dau gets hold of some great armor skills to boot, like Latent Power (increased affinity, reduces stamina depletion), and Maximum Might (increased affinity when stamina bar is full). Rey Dau represents a somewhat sharp spike inMonster Hunter Wilds' difficulty, being able to nearly one-shot the player with its railgun lightning bolt. As such, thefight is very satisfyingand makes Rey Dau worth the capture.

Ajarakan Marrow

Ajarakan Medulla

Ajarakan is a fast and furious Fanged Beast with both a temper and heat output not seen (at least yet) inMonster Hunter Wilds.

With its intense rage and constant pressure, it can be an unruly fight for a solo hunter. Fortunately, the Equipment Skills more than make up for the potential headache that Ajarakan can cause. It gets Partbreaker (increases damage to weak points), which is a great skill for farming a monster’s tails or horns. The High Rank version also gives Resentment (increases Attack when damage is dealt to the player).

Nu Udra Horn +

Nu Udra Hide +

The Black Flame, later given the name Nu Udra, is yet another one of the Apex predators the player will fight inMonster Hunter Wilds. At this point in the game, the player should already be kitted out with some decent armor and weapons.

Apart from looking exceptional, the Nu Udra armor gets Resentment and Speed Eating, with the High Rank version getting Counterstrike (increased attack power after knockback), Burst, and Windproof (reduces/nullifies wind pressure). As a running theme, fights from each Apex and onward both get harder and more intense.Keep those Mega Potions handy!

Guardian Ebony Plate

Guardian Ebony Gem

A returning monster to theMonster Hunterfranchise, Ebony Odogaron finds itself turned into a Construct, called Guardian Ebony Odogaron. The gear for Guardian Ebony Odogaron boasts Burst and Bleeding Resistance (reduces/nullifies bleed) in Low Rank.

The High Rank versions get some much-sought-after skills to prioritize in Earplugs (decreases/nullifies monster roars) and Divine Blessing (reduced damage taken randomly). Alongside the suite of monster-specific materials, Odogaron also drops Guardian Scales, used in many of the Guardian weapons, and Nourishing Extract, which can upgrade certain consumables to a more powerful form.

Gore Magala Certificate S

Gore Magala Nyctgem

Gore Magala, another returning monster from previous entries, is the cause of the Frenzied virus, discovered post-credits of the main story forMonster Hunter Wilds.Gore is relentless, and has many attacks that can catch hunters off-guard if not ready for them.

Being high-rank exclusive, Gore has some terrifying attacks that can prove fatal to players who have not invested much into their armor during High Rank. Getting skills like Evade Window (increased diving range) and Constitution (reduces stamina depletion) are a must when repeating Gore.

1Arkveld

Off The Chain

High Rank Drops (Arkveld only in High Rank, Guardian Arkveld can be found in Low Rank)

Arkveld Tail

Arkveld Gem

Not only is Arkveld the flagship monster forMonster Hunter Wilds, but it is also the final fight in the players' way in the post-game so far. Arkveld, compared to Guardian Arkveld, is both very similar and different in a few ways.

While Guardian Arkveld is uncapturable, the harder version of Arkveld is. The armor sets come with plenty of Equipment skills and evendecoration slotsto fill out any gaps the armor may have. It’s the final armor set the player can obtain before moving on to any additional Title Update content.
