Monster Hunter Wildshas a staggering amount of new monsters in the game, reaching well over a dozen. That does not even include variants from past games. For example, one of the big monsters that was introduced inMonster Hunter: Worldswas Anjanath. It was a giant T-Rex equivalent that shot fire.

InMonster Hunter Wilds, Anjanath has a Guardian version with electricity flowing through its body. While that is a cool play on a classic monster, it isn’t new. These other monsters are completely new in the game and they range from challenging to fun. Let’s rank them based on combat creativity and style.

Fighting two Ajarakans in Monster Hunter Wilds

7Ajarakan

Asura’s Wrath

Ajarakan is a monkey, the second of which follows Congalala. Congalala is fromMonster Hunter 2and is more like a joke character though. Ajarakan is a lot more threatening especially since players will begin the first encounter facing off against two of them. Its punches can hit hard and it has the power of fire. It can be tough at first, but the design is cool as it is reminiscent of character designs found in another Capcom game,Asura’s Wrath, which was developed incollaboration with CyberConnect2.

6Rompopolo

A Pet For The Helghast

Rompopolo, like Ajarakan, is located in the Oilwell Basin which is the third biome of the game. It will rise out of the oily ooze with glowing red eyes reminiscent of the Helghast soldiers from theKillzoneseries who have glowing orange eyes. Rompopolo also looks like a mosquito that mutated into more of a problem.

That alone makes it cool, with this threatening design even though it becomes less scary once players fight it. It’s smaller than its first appearance but still pretty well-designed overall.

Setting a trap in Monster Hunter Wilds

5Lala Barina

A Spider With A Beautiful Behind

Lala Barina is a new spider for the series with a killer intro. Erik, one of the supporting NPCs back at base camp, gets cocooned into a beautiful trap that players need to break him out of. Lala Barina will lure unsuspecting prey in with its beautiful abdomen which can look like a rose before sending out paralyzing pollen. The battlefield can be littered with these glowing orange puffs, making it a tricky battlefield to navigate. These two features alone helpLala Barina stand out from other new monsters inMonster Hunter Wildsand even returning ones like Nerscylla, another spider who looks more simplistic design-wise.

4Guardian Arkveld

The Cover Star

Arkveld is the cover star of this game, or more specifically, Guardian Arkveld. There is a difference between the normal version and the Guardian version which requires some spoilers which don’t need to be addressed here. Guardian Arkveld has a wyvern-like design similar to Rathalos, but it has big chain-like tendrils attached to its wings. This gives it an edge in battle as they are hard to dodge thanks to their size and long reach. As a cover monster, it’s a pretty good entry for the series except that it gets overshadowed by the true final boss of thelower ranks ofMonster Hunter Wilds.

3Uth Duna

A Watery Titan

Uth Duna is the first monster in the game that players can’t defeat right away for story purposes. It’s also the first monster that is a titan in size, making use of the true next-gen features of the current consoles. This giant salamander can create tidal waves to sweep players away. Thankfully, most areas of the Scarlet Forest have bugs to grapple onto and avoid damage. Thedevelopers at Capcomput some thought into this encounter which is why it stands out as a boss fight even though the design of Uth Duna may not be that scary.

2Jin Dahaad

A Cinematic Boss Fight

Jin Dahaad is another colossal monster in the game for one epic fight. The encounter will begin with this giant dragon who looks like it’s made of bones chasing players on theirSeikrets inMonster Hunter Wilds.

After the chase, players will have to face it in a giant arena that is filled with grappling points like the Uth Duna fight. These grapple points can also be used to trap the Jin Dahaad under some rubble and score some critical hits. It’s another example of a boss fight that is epic but not necessarily hard.

1Zoh Shia

The True Final Boss

Zoh Shia is the aforementioned monster that takes all of the threat away from Guardian Arkveld. Its size is massive and like the previous entries, this is an epic fight. However, this fight is actually one of the hardest in the game because Zoh Shia is not joking around. The cool gimmick with this monster is that it can coat its body in a milky substance to give it armor. Players will have to peel it away to due some safest its true body. Seeing how its form evolves throughout the fight will make players feel like they are really making a difference which is saying something because the newWounds system does that too inMonster Hunter Wilds.
