Summary
Critical Rolehas officially confirmed it is “hard at work” on a video game that will feature the world of Exandria in a brand-new way. Few details are currently available for this project, but theDungeons and Dragonsactual play plans to announce its video game project very soon.
In December 2024,Critical RoleCEO Travis Willingham teased an in-development video gameduring an interview with Rolling Stone. While he didn’t lock anything down, he said the company had been dabbling with the industry, and would have “something really exciting to share” either at the end of the year or in early 2025.
A few months later,Critical Rolenot only confirmed the existence of a secret video game project, but teased its impending formal announcement. In an interview with Business Insider, Willingham plainly stated that the company is “hard at work” on a video game set in theCritical Roleuniverse. Though he did not share the project’s name or a timetable for when it would be released, he did say there were plans to announce it “any day.”Critical Rolefan Meri shared the relevant excerpt from Business Insider article on Twitter.
Critical Role Plans To Announce a Video Game ‘Any Day’
Willingham also teased a few details about this mysterious game, including confirmation that it will take place within Exandria, the setting of theCritical Rolecampaigns created by dungeon master and chief creative officer Matthew Mercer. He referred to it as the “interactive slate” of theCritical Roleuniverse, and that “[Players will] actually be getting their hand on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria.” The genre is currently unknown, but it sounds likeCR’s video game will be story-driven, feature cameos fromsome popularCritical Rolecharacters, and possibly even contain “what if” scenarios for events within the world, in addition to original adventures that will expand on Exandria.
Critical Rolejust celebrated its 10-year anniversary on March 12, meaning an official video game announcement would be especially timely. Fans will probably not have to wait long to hear a reveal of its video game project – likely any time afterCritical Role’s Exandria Wrap-Up show on March 13.

That isn’t the onlyCRannouncement fans are eagerly anticipating, asCritical Rolerecently finished the Bells Hells campaign and theExandria Unlimited: Divergencemini-campaign. Given how drastically Campaign 3 ended, no one knows exactly what the next game is going to look like – or ifCritical Rolewill switch over toDaggerheart, its new TTRPG system, rather than continue usingDungeons and Dragons. Critters will hopefully hear news aboutCritical Role’s actual play show and video game within the next couple of weeks.
