This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 5 & 6

For the second time this season,Daredevil: Born Againdropped two episodes on one night. The first time Disney+ did that, it was to kick off the newDaredevilseries and officially welcome a new era in Hell’s Kitchen into the MCU. This time around, the reason for dropping two episodes at the same time is not nearly as obvious.

Perhaps therationale for twoDaredevil: Born Againepisodes hitting at the same time this week was simply because one of those episodes was a sort of fun standalone episode while the second installment of the evening moved the story along. That second episode also pulled back the mask onseveral events that happened earlier in the season. Perhaps, sooner or later, the audience will find that both episodes didn’t have an obvious purpose.

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 5, “With Interest,” mostly removes the audience from the story that has been unfolding all season. Instead, this hour all takes place at the same location, when Matt Murdock went to a bank to get a loan for his law firm. The assistant manager who has to deliver the bad news - that Murdock has been denied - was none other than Yusuf Khan, the father of Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. While some other episodes havehinted at MCU tie-inswithmentions of the Skrullsand other easter eggs, this is the most obvious, explicit tie.

While at the bank, robbers - who seem to be trying to buy their way out of Wilson Fisk’s gang - hit the bank without realizing what a bad day they’re going to have. As is his ability, Matt slowly and surely wins over the trust of the robbers to let down their guard and enlists Mr. Khan to help him get what the robbers were after first. Eventually Murdock is able to take down the robbery andreturn the item they were after to Mr. Khanwith a nifty sleight of hand.

Muse The Monster

While “With Interest” is a bit lighter fare, “Excessive Force” is quite a bit darker. The story centers around Mayor Fisk discovering that there is something deeply wrong with the murals that have been popping up all over the citycourtesy of Museand he’s been using special paint that includes human blood. Soon Fisk realizes that this isn’t a normal killer and in fact, is a prodigious serial killer who has claimed more than 60 victims.

In order to deal with the murderer he puts together a task force that just happens to be made up of cops that even the commissioner admits are the worst of the worst. Unsurprisingly, at least one of the officers put into this task force is one the audience has met before. He’s the same officer that tried to tried to kill his confidential informant and wasstopped by White Tiger, which led to his partner falling in front of a train.

Meanwhile,White Tiger’s niece, Angela Del Torois looking for vengeance after he was shot and killed the same night that he was found not guilty that the police officer’s murder. However, Matt effectively tells her that at the moment, there isn’t anything he can do and she goes away quite unhappy.

Meanwhile, Muse is doing his thing, making murals and killing people. Things escalate when two young women approach him as a celebrity artist, but he kills them on the spot and leaves them posed against his mural, sending a message to the police and the city that he’s not to be messed with.

How Does Daredevil: Born Again Episode 6 End?

The Final(?) Showdown

Muse ends up taking Angela Del Toro as one of his next victims and by doing this he finally brings Matt out of retirement. After first going to call 911, he decides to put on the suit again andgo out into the night as Daredevil. He does eventually find Muse in an abandoned subway tunnel and the two do battle.

After first going to call 911, he decides to put on the suit again and go out into the night as Daredevil.

After the two men deliver some very powerful blows and there are times when it seems as though Muse is going to win the fight, Daredevil ends up defeating the villain and saving Angela’s life after she had been drained of a great deal of her blood like all of Muse’s other victims. While the hero is focused on Angela, Muse is able to escape and will almost certainly be back later in the season.

Wilson Fisk Fights His Demon

As Daredevil is fighting Muse, Kingpin has gone back down to the basement where he keeps Adam and tells him that he’ll let him go, as long as Adam can beat him in combat. He even gives Adam an axe to use as a weapon, but it proves to be useless and Kingpin quickly wins the fight. The scene ends with Kingpin dragging Adam back into his cell and then sitting there contemplating what just happened.
