Summary

Today was a big day forDestiny 2, as Bungie held a live stream on Twitch delving into a lot of upcoming content for the looter-shooter starting with Moments of Triumph now throughout the release ofHeresy Act 2, and then more up until the end of the Episode. Act 2 is about to add a fun mode with Court of Blades, which could make for an interesting mix of roguelike and boss-rush inDestiny 2, and then Bungie shared some teases for Act 3. This includes an Act 3 event called Rite of the Nine, which could completely changeDestiny 2.

Back when Bungie was trying to build hype for The Final Shape’s release and give players a reason to come back to the game, it launched the Into the Light update, which added time-limited weapons, a horde mode with Onslaught, and the boss-rush event called Pantheon.Destiny 2’s Pantheon was largely considered one of the best additions to the game, and now Bungie is doing something similar and yet even more revolutionary with Rite of the Nine. There will not only be 12 chase weapons to obtain, as well as their Adept versions, but players will be able to go through three Dungeons for free and do so with groundbreaking modes that are accessible to everyone and can build hype for Frontiers.

Why Destiny 2’s Rite of the Nine Event is a Complete Game-Changer

The premise of Rite of the Nine inDestiny 2is that the Dungeons calledProphecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deepwill all be free for all Guardians to play during the event, and they will become available with some unique modes. These are:

The reason why this is huge is that Dungeons can be quite difficult to get into for new players, but also for those who don’t have a group to play with or are not accustomed to endgame content. Explorer mode is a fantastic bridge betweenDestiny 2’s endgame contentand the audience it currently fails to engage with. On top of that, Ultimatum mode makes Dungeons much more difficult, acting as Episode Heresy’s own version of Pantheon.

How Destiny 2’s Heresy Act 3 Event Can Be a Win-Win Scenario for Bungie

WhilePantheon inDestiny 2was universally praised, it was not for everyone. A lot of players didn’t complete all boss encounters in the mode even if they cleared previous levels, which is a good way to produce quality challenging content, but also makes the game less accessible overall. This is not true for Rite of the Nine, which can not only allow all players to participate, but even grow and complete all modes the game has to offer. Players could start in Explorer mode to familiarize themselves with Dungeons, acquire some good new weapons, and then gradually run Eternity and Ultimatum within the same event.

Not cutting off any players from a big end-of-Episode event is a nice choice on Bungie’s part, and it could help build up all the more hype ahead ofDestiny 2’s Frontiersrelease later this year. Going into a new content model and era of the game at once can be taxing on players of all skill levels, so to offer a plethora of unique-looking powerful weapons as a reward for learning to get into endgame content is a win-win situation that could net Bungie a big win.
