Dexter: Resurrectionmarks Michael C. Hall’s return as the eponymous serial killer for the second time. TheDexter: New Bloodminiseries attempted to provide a more satisfying ending to Dexter Morgan’s story following the originalDextershow’s widely panned series finale. However, theDexter: New Bloodending didn’t fare much better with fans, prompting showrunner Clyde Phillips to retcon the miniseries' finale, which concluded with Dexter being fatally shot by his teenage son and exposed as the true “Bay Harbor Butcher.” Now,Dexter: Resurrectionwill continue the story, and the series is assembling a cast filled with A-list names, with the latest addition coming from the DC universe.
Dexter: Resurrection Casts Adds The Suicide Squad Actor, Krysten Ritter Welcomes The Newest Addition
Paramount announced thatThe Suicide Squadactor David Dastmalchian joined theDexter: Resurrectioncast.Dastmalchian joinsDexter: Resurrectionin the guest-starring role of Gareth, though no further details on his character were provided. FellowDexter: Resurrectioncast member Krysten Ritterwelcomed Dastmalchian to the team by sharing a photo of the two actors on Instagram. “Goth fam says hi - having a killer time with @dastmalchian,” Ritter wrote in the caption, suggesting their characters will share the screen.
Who Else is in the Dexter: Resurrection Cast?
Ritter joinsDexter: Resurrectionas renowned sommelier Mia Lapierre, who reportedly hides a “serial killer secret.” Other newcomers to theDexterfranchise include Uma Thurman as Charley, the head of security for a billionaire philanthropist played byGame of Thronesstar Peter Dinklage, Neil Patrick Harris as a character named Lowell, and Eric Stonestreet as Al, who is believed to be a serial killer. There are a handful of returning favorites as well. David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott reprise their respective roles as Angel Batista, Harry Morgan (Dexter’s deceased father who appears as the personification of Dexter’s inner monologue), and Harrison. Unfortunately,Jennifer Carpenter won’t return as Debra Morgan inDexter: Resurrection, as the actress said she’s “completed that box.”
Dastmalchian has developed a reputation for playing ‘creepy’ characters (for lack of a better term) with roles likePolka-Dot Man inThe Suicide Squad, Thomas Schiff inThe Dark Knight, and Bob Taylor in Denis Villeneuve’sPrisoners, to name a few.So, it would be understandable if fans assumed he’s joiningDexter: Resurrectionas a serial killer who may or may not find themselves on Dexter’s table. However, Dastmalchian has demonstrated his range with comedic and dramatic roles like Kurt in theAnt-Manfilms, William L. Borden in Christopher Nolan’sOppenheimer, and Jack Delroy inLate Night with the Devil. Therefore, Dastmalchian may play a role fans won’t expect.
While some fans question the need for anotherDexterseries, others argueDexter: Resurrectioncould save the once-praised series from a reputation stained by weaker later seasons and two failed finales. With a talented cast of newcomers and familiar faces,Dexter: Resurrectioncertainly has fans' attention, which Paramount and Showtime undoubtedly hope will translate into ratings.
Dexter: Resurrectionis scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2025 on Paramount Plus with Showtime.
