Supermassive Games' interactive horror titles have largely been set in the present day, but its next big release,Directive 8020, takes place in an entirely new time period. Like many of its recent works,Directive 8020is a part ofThe Dark Pictures Anthologyseries, which currently includes four mainline installments and one VR-exclusive spin-off. The game will serve as the first installment of the franchise’s second season, and it’s going to take place entirely in a colony spaceship called theCassiopeia, which, after crash-landing on a distant planet in the far future, gets infected by a dangerous, shape-shifting alien organism.

Directive 8020will feature a cast of five playable characters, all of which can be permanently killed off depending on the decisions that players make. The main protagonist of the game is Brianna Young, who serves as theCassiopeia’s pilot. Young is the female character that’s present onDirective 8020’s cover art, and she’s portrayed by British actress Lashana Lynch. Although Lynch doesn’t exactly have a household name, some fans may recognize her since she’s been cast in several high-profile films and TV shows over the last few years.

Lashana Lynch started off her acting career in 2007, by portraying a minor character in a long-running British procedural drama known asThe Bill. She didn’t get into the film industry, however, until several years later. In 2012, Lynch portrayed a supporting character in a little-known Britishsports dramacalledFast Girls. Up to this point, Lashana Lynch had exclusively starred in domestic movies and TV shows, most of which were not well-known internationally. However, she was eventually cast in a non-British production in 2019, and it wasn’t for a small independent movie. Lynch received her breakout role in the Brie Larson-led filmCaptain Marvel, where she portrayed the former U.S. Air Force pilot andS.W.O.R.D. founder Maria Rambeau. She would later reprise the role of Rambeau in two other Marvel films, 2022’sDoctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madnessand 2023’sThe Marvels.

Directive 8020 is the First Video Game that Lashana Lynch Has Ever Been Cast In

Directive 8020will mark Lashana Lynch’s first foray into the video game industry as a whole. Although it’s not too common for film actors to nab major roles in video games, most ofThe Dark Pictures Anthologyinstallmentshave so far featured at least a few Hollywood talents, so this is not too surprising. What is surprising, though, is the fact that Lashana Lynch isn’t the only actor inDirective 8020that’s making their debut in the realm of gaming. Like Lynch, the fellow British actor Danny Sapani is also going to make his first-ever appearance in a video game with this title. Although very little is known about the characters that Lynch and Sapani will portray inDirective 8020, it’s nice to see that Supermassive Games is not cutting corners in the acting department for its upcoming game.
