Summary

BioWare released a new weapon set forDragon Age: The Veilguardthat players can claim for free on PC. One of the biggest fantasy RPGs of 2024,Dragon Age: The Veilguardwas released last fall to somewhat of a mixed response. While it ultimately landed in the low to mid 80s for Xbox and PlayStation on Metacritic, dipping down to a 76 for PC, many felt thatDragon Age: The Veilguardwas ultimately missing the BioWare magic of old that made games like theMass Effecttrilogy and the earlierDragon Ageentries so special.

Despite the respectable Metacritic scores and selling 1.5 million copies as of January, it has been reported thatDragon Age: The Veilguardfell short of publisher EA’s lofty expectations. This has led to anunfortunate round of layoffs at BioWarethat reportedly wiped out the entireDragon Ageteam and left fewer than 100 employees at the studio. On top of that, all post-launch support forDragon Age: The Veilguard, aside from bug fixes, has been scrapped. The game is currently sitting at a heavy 50% discount on Steam, making it available for just $30.

It seems a small amount ofDragon Age: The Veilguard’s cut post-launch contentis making it out the door as free DLC for PC players. On Steam, the “Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer,” has gone live for download at no additional cost. The DLC’s description mentions that the offer will only be available until April 9, and will automatically appear in-game for those who purchaseDragon Age: The Veilguard. As for the items included, the bundle is comprised of five weapons: a dagger, bow, shield, sword, and maul, each decorated with creepy dark eye-like postules.

New Dragon Age: The Veilguard Rook’s Weapons Bundle is Free on PC

Since the bundle is only available forPC players on Steam, it would be fair to wonder whether the weapon pack will make its way to Xbox and PlayStation gamers at some point as well. Though seeing that this seems to be a limited-time offer, it might end up being a Steam-only deal, especially consideringDragon Age: The Veilguardisn’t discounted on consoles at the moment. Since this bundle was released after BioWare ended post-launch support forDragon Age: The Veilguard, it likely means work on these weapons was finished before support was cut. If true, this begs whether BioWare could have more finished, vaulted post-launch bundles like this one that it could release as free DLC in the future.

With the Rook’s Weapons bundle only available until April 9,Dragon Age: The Veilguardplayers on Steam should take advantage of the deal before it ends. The game’s 50% off Steam sale is running until March 27, so Steam gamers who are interested inBioWare’s latest fantasy RPGcan grab both the game and the new weapons bundle in one fell swoop before the discount ends.
