Summary
Ever since the start ofDragon Ball Super, many new aspects have been introduced into the franchise that have changed the entire playing field. With new characters coming in who are far stronger than those who have come before and the introduction of the Divine Hierarchy with the Angels and Gods of Destruction, the heroes have now had to become just as powerful to keep up.
One of these aspects was the multiverse, which has gone on to expand the series much more than anything else. However, one of the greatest criticisms thatDragon Ball Superhas received since theend of the Tournament of Powerwas that the multiverse wasn’t explored enough. So, in this article, let’s take a look at how this beloved concept can be made relevant to the overall story once again.
How This Concept Can Be Further Explored
First Mention
Dragon Ball Super, Episode 18, “I’m Here, Too! Training Commences on Beerus' World!”
Story Arc
Golden Frieza Saga
The very first mention of the multiverse came with the debut of Beerus' twin brother, Champa, andhis Angel attendant Vados, who also happened to be Whis' older sister. From here, it was eventually revealed that there are currently a total of 12 universes, each of which was designed in pairs which equaled the number 13 when they were put next to their twin universe. For example, Universes 6 and 7 are twins, 5 and 8 are twins, etc.
Eventually, it was revealed that there were originally a total of 18 universes but 6 of them were erased by Zeno many years before the start of the main story. This was done due to their low Mortal Levels, which is essentially a metric for maintaining the progress of the mortal residents of a particular universe. InDragon Ball Super, the Tournament of Power was held between the 8 universes with the lowest Mortal Levels to see which one of them would survive. In the end, Universe 7 triumphed but wished all the others back too.
However, much to the chagrin of most fans of the series, this was the last they would see of the multiverse. Even though theDragon Ball Superserieswould continue with the mangaand a few movies, none of the storylines here would leave Universe 7, which has ignited a desire within many fans to see the aspect explored once more. Theories about how this could happen have been circulating since the Tournament of Power ended.
One such way is how it was done in the fan manga,Dragon Ball Kakumei. Here, Android 17’s final wish upon winning the Tournament of Power to bring back all the erased universes didn’t only revert all the universes that were annihilated in the tournament, but also the 6 universes that Grand Zeno had erased prior to the start of the series. This began an incredible final war-style arc that incorporated warriors from across the multiverse to defeat the evil forces of the previously forgotten Destroyer Gods and Angels.
Please restore all of the universes that were erased!
This was incredible to see as almost all the characters from previous arcs made a comeback and were instrumental in some way in protecting the multiverse at large. Similarly, the officialDragon Ball Superseries can tackle this aspect, showing howthe new power-ups that the heroes have achievedwould work in the larger context of all the powerful warriors they met in the tournament. It would also show how these characters may have gotten just as strong in the time they have been away.
Other ways to make the multiverse relevant again could be done in a way that tackles one universe at a time. For example, fans have been waiting to see the Z-Fighters visit the Saiyans of Universe 6 for years now, or even how events folding out in Universe 11 could see Goku and Vegeta visit there. With such broad aspects available for the writers, the possibilities are endless.
How Power Scaling Will Work Now
How Strong Would All These Characters Have Gotten?
It’s no secret that after the Tournament of Power, the power scaling of the franchise shot up drastically. Since then, the Saiyans of Universe 7 have achieved new levels of power that have put them close to the realm of the Gods themselves, whileFrieza specifically has unlocked a new formthat trumps the strongest states of the heroes. Because of this, Universe 7 is far above everyone else in terms of power.
However, it would be foolish to assume that the powers of the warriors from the other universes simply stopped growing after the tournament ended. With characters as strong and dedicated as Jiren, Toppo, Hit, and the Universe 6 Saiyans, the overall strength of the multiverse is very likely to have increased just as much as the heroes of Universe 7. Only by visiting the multiverse again will there be a proper measure of how strong they have gotten.
