God of Destruction Beerus Saga

WhenDragon Ball Zended, Super Saiyan 3 Goku was one of the two most powerful mortals in the universe. Of course, Vegito and Buuhan were far stronger due to the fused nature of their powers, but when it came to unfused characters, Goku in his Super Saiyan 3 state left everyone in the dustsave except for Ultimate Gohan. However, when Beerus finally made his debut, Super Saiyan 3 Goku proved to be nothing to him.

This took everyone by shock since this was the transformation of the strongest Saiyan who was able to defeat the universe’s most dangerous villain in Kid Buu. This brief glimpse at Beerus' power was enough to tell fans of the franchise that the entire landscape was about to change, and that Goku and friends needed to seriously up their game if they were to stand a chance. This is where Super Saiyan God came in, and while it put up one of the greatest fights in the series against Beerus, it was no way close to his level of power.

This is how the future power-ups and transformations inSuperwould go, since fans believed that each new bump in power for Goku and Vegeta would eventually bring them up to the level of Beerus, but this was never the case. However, when Goku finally realized thelegendary technique of the Angelswith his Ultra Instinct form, fans believed that the Saiyan finally managed to manifest a power that matched Beerus. However, although Ultra Instinct was a technique that even Beerus could never master, Goku still wasn’t as strong.

In fact, it’s implied that even Goku’s Ultra Instinct, and, subsequently, Vegeta’s Ultra Ego, still aren’t on the same level as Beerus, regardless of how strong they’ve gotten because of their Divine Transformations. In Chapter 103 of the manga, Beerus commented as such when Goku and Gohan sparred in their most powerful forms without even paying much attention to their bout at all.

Destruction isn’t in the cards for someone that straight-laced!

This proves that Beerus still doesn’t consider their power worthy of his attention. Many believed that Gohan in his brand-new Beast form was the answer tothe Oracle Fish’s prophecyabout the strongest mortal in Universe 7 eventually rising up, but Beerus' nonchalant attitude to his power proves that this likely wasn’t the case and that the heroes aren’t even close to him yet.

More than anything, Beerus acts as a narrative device inSuperas a way to measure the strength of Goku and Vegeta and how strong they need to be. If they do, somehow, manage to match Beerus, it will undoubtedly be at the very end of the series once all other obstacles and enemies are out of the way. Until then, it seems that Black Frieza is the only one who can possibly put up even a little bit of a fight against the Destroyer right now, since his new power-up was enough to knock Goku and Vegeta out in their strongest forms with a single punch.

How Goku And Vegeta Can Match Beerus Right Now

Fusion Is The Only Way To Decrease The Gap

Currently, the only way for Goku and Vegeta to decrease the gap between themselves and Beerus substantially is through the fusion method. Even when Vegito and Gogeta made their debuts inSuper, fans debated about whether theywere actually stronger than Beerus, but in hindsight, it’s clear that despite being the strongest mortals in Universe 7 at the time of their appearance in the series, they still weren’t on the Destroyer’s level.

However, this could all be different if the Saiyans were to fuse now. Not only are Goku and Vegeta thousands of times stronger than they were before, they also have Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego respectively, which are the best defense and offense one can have in the series. Due to the union of both Divine Techniques and the massive power boost granted by fusion, they may now finally stand a chance against Beerus.
