Summary
Avengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Warsare expected to boast huge ensemble casts, bringing together many of the biggest and most powerful Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes. There has yet to be an official reveal about which characters will appear, though, leading to a lot of speculation about who may or may not appear in the upcomingAvengersfilms, which will be released in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
That is only enhanced by the fact that the multiverse is wide open for these two films, which means tons of characters could end up being involved. Even those who have previously died are open to returning, as Robert Downey Jr. shows by taking on the role of Doctor Doom. But Elizabeth Olsen has put speculation to bed as far as Scarlet Witch’s status is concerned.
Olsen has played the powerful MCU hero and villain numerous times now, but she toldThe Hollywood Reporterthat people shouldn’t expect her to appear inAvengers: DoomsdayorAvengers: Secret Wars. She said, “I didn’t realize this until about six years ago, but because Marvel and its influence takes up so much physical time and space in the world, it’s really important for me to make choices outside of Marvel that reflect my own taste,” Olsen said. “Your taste does create the artist that you are, and that wasn’t something I was thinking about when I first started working. So the opportunity to return to films like [The Assessment]is a reflection of the people I want to work with and my own personal taste.” Olsen was then asked about whether or not she would be staying in London to work with The Russo Brothers onthe upcomingAvengersmovies, to which she said, “No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [calledSevenSisters].”
Of course, whenever it comes to an actor’s comments regarding potential MCU appearances, it’s essential not to take everything at face value. These projects are highly secretive, and Marvel Studios never wants the secrets to be leaked out ahead of time, especially from the cast themselves. That’s why there is still a chance that Olsen couldappear in the upcomingAvengersmovies, even though the signs are pointing toward that not happening this time around – despite rumors pointing toward the contrary.
The status of Scarlet Witch has been up in the air since the end ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she seemingly sacrificed herself to destroy all of the Darkhold copies. However, ever since then, there has been no shortage of rumors and speculation about how the character could return to the MCU. Kevin Feige himself has refused to rule out a return for the character, and considering the powers she possesses, there are many creative ways to make that happen.
The success ofWandaVisionhelped raise Scarlet Witch’s status within the MCU, as she quickly became one of the most popular characters in the franchise. That’s why fans want to see her back on the big screen in a powerful way, but whether that’sgoing to happen inAvengers: DoomsdayorAvengers: Secret Warsremains to be seen.
