Summary
One artistic,Fallout-loving parent has converted their son’s water pistol into a replica of the 10mm pistol popularized by the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise. The 10mm has established itself as one of theFalloutfranchise’s most recognizable weapons, and this off-the-rack water pistol provided a cheap yet relatively accurate base for bringing it into the real world.
The 10mm has been featured in every mainline game in the series, as well as mostFalloutspin-off games. Not known for packing much of a punch compared to some other iconic weapons like the Alien Blaster and the Fat Man, it has still cemented its place in the hearts of the franchise’s faithful players, as it is often the first gun they’re able to run across when starting a new game, including exiting Vault 13 in the originalFallout.
That could have been a big motivation for one player, who goes by the Reddit handle thedude502, to convert an old, discarded water pistol his son didn’t want anymore into the classicweapon fromFallout. In its pre-transformation form, the water pistol appears to be from the X Shot brand, sporting a bold color combination of orange, white, and neon green. But its shape is reminiscent of the 10mm pistol displayed in theFalloutgames, with its generally rectangular shape and similar mechanical components. With some simple spray paint and touches of black and silver paint markers put in just the right places, the transformation makes the finished product instantly recognizable to a lot ofFalloutfans.
Artist Crates Replica Fallout 10mm Pistol Using a Cheap Water Gun
The parent who created this replica is a professional artist, though they said they do most of their work digitally. However, the shape of the water gun provided some obvious inspiration to their discerning eye, and they said they wanted to “tell a story” with the pistol, using the paint to create realistic wear and tear that fits intoFallout’s post-apocalyptic environment.
While the general shape of the 10mm pistol has been pretty consistent throughoutFallout’s 26-year history, it has undergone changes from game to game. With its two-toned color scheme, this version is probably closest to either theFallout 3weaponor the version from the first two CRPGs. The artist noted that the pet project is just a first attempt that they made out of boredom, and they would like to search thrift stores for some other toy guns that have the potential for some beautiful transformations. One commenter suggested adding some special effects, like an internal camera flash attached to the battery, to which the artist noted that there is a lot of empty space inside water pistols.
