Summary
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthfinally hit the PC back in January, and the mods have been coming in thick and fast. There are gameplay tweaks, graphical fixes, AVX2 emulation, and a lot of character mods. Want Cloud in hisKingdom Heartsattire? OrTifa in herAdvent Childrenoutfit? It’s all just a download away.
The same is true of Aerith, the flower girl as infamous for her fate as she is famous for her staff-swinging healing. If players want to alter her in any way, they’ve got a treasure trove’s worth of mods to choose from. But which ones should they start with? Here are just a few key examples that are worth checking out.
1Aerith Bahamut Robe
Summon A New Fit With This Mod
FF7: Ever Crisisis a mobile RPG that reimagines events from the first game,Crisis Core, andDirge of Cerberus, where players can take chibified versions of the gang out on their adventures. They could even be dressed in unique outfits, like Bahamut-themed suits. Aerith in particular got a nice Bahamut robe and staff combo.
Pejniu liked it enough to mod it intoFF7 Rebirthas theAerith Bahamut Robemod. With it, players can dress her in the full nines, or in just her top if they don’t like how the robe flows. Both come with the Bahamut Rod, complete with its dragon wings motif at the top. It’s sadly incompatible with other clothing and weapon mods, so it’s all or nothing with this mod.
2Aerith Original Outfit
No School Like the Old School
Most of the outfits inFF7 RemakeandRebirthare close enough to their 1997 designs. They’ve just had touch-ups here and there, like Tifa gaining an undershirt, or Aerith’s dress being practically white with its light shades. But what if players wanted it to be more faithful to the old classic? StillUnoriginal has them covered with theirAerith Original Outfitmod.
This mod changes Aerith’s dress to be a bright pink number with buttons, resembling the original artwork by Tetsuya Nomura. The jacket has also been simplified with big buttons over the zippers and belts of herRebirthjacket. It’s a neat way to go old-school without losing out on the polygons, and it allows other cosmetic mods like hair and eye color options to work with it as well.
3Aerith Of The Turks
Switching Sides Or Switching Fits
They’re agents of Shinra working under Heidegger, but it’s hard to hate the Turks. Namely, because they’re ultimately a bunch of goofs, from Rude being not as intimidating as he looks, to Reno ordering others not to step on the flowers…while stepping on the flowers. Still, they’re fan favorites, and some might like to play the game from their perspective.
Pejniu’s mod can’t quite do that (players need a ROM of the old mobile gameBefore Crisisfor a game based on the Turks), but it can make Aerith a member via theirAerith of the Turksmod. It replaces her usual duds with Reno’s uniform, complete with goggles and red hair, which can be toggled on or off. The mod suits her surprisingly well and helps her fit in — plus, there are Turk mods for the rest of the playable cast.
4Aranea Aerith
Swinging A Staff At The Daemons
Remember Aranea Highwind?FF15’s wild, high-flying ex-merc-turned-commodore of the Niflheim Empire? What if she shifted dimensions and traded Niflheim for Nibelheim? It would make for a curious crossover, or anotherDissidiasequel. But if players liked her fit, kazumashirou turned it into an outfit for Aerith.
Aranea Aerithgives her a full leather outfit, from the jacket down to the skirt, making her look like she dressed up too late for that motorcycle section inFF7 Remake. The skirt can be toggled off too, if players want a better look at her leather pants. It can be used to replace either her Default Outfit or Soldier fit, but it can’t be loaded over both, or it could cause a crash.
5Aerith Heavy Metal Outfits Remake
Becoming One With The Rock
Aerith doesn’t seem like the kind of girl who’d be into heavy metal, but looks can be deceiving. With vxsapphire’sAerith Heavy Metal Outfits Remakemod, players can replace all of Aerith’s standard fits with different ensembles modeled after different bands, from her black and white Slayer checkerboard look to her yellow and black plaid Guns N’Roses fit. If they look familiar, that’s because they’re retweaks of mods vxsapphire made for Aerith back inFF7 Remake.
They can be combined with her different hair and eye color mods if players want her to coordinate her colors or give her the full goth makeover. Note that they work best with vxsapphire’s other cosmetic mods, as they haven’t been tested with mods made by other people. The mod also clashes withher 4K Upscale Mod, so players with 4K screens will have to stick to regular HD output to work with these outfits until a workaround can be found.
6Jessie Over Aerith
Giving Jessie’s Gang Some Love
Some fans think Tifa is the best girl inFF7, while others prefer Aerith. Others might still prefer Yuffie’s ninja thief antics. But there are others that wish Jessie, the doomed AVALANCHE member fromFF7’s early chapters, got more of a look-in before she ducked out for good. With the power of mods, players can give her more time in the spotlight.
SoTotallySora’sJessie Over Aerithmod does exactly what it says on the tin: it replaces Aerith’s standard fit with Jessie’s model fromFF7 Remake, complete with name changes in the menu and outfit selection screen. Now Jessie can continue to have the players’ backs — even if it means keeping her in full uniform on the Costa del Sol beaches, as the other options will bring the flower girl back in her beachwear.
7Slayer Aerith
Ms Gainsborough Goes Goth
The Aerith Heavy Metal Outfits Remake mod comes with a Slayer fit, though with its checkerboard design, it might make her seem more ready to skank to two-tone ska than headbang to ‘Raining Blood.’ If players want a sole metal fit, Ninjagrime has an alternative offering in theirSlayer Aerithmod.
It’s an original design Ninjagrime put together just beforeFF7 Rebirth’s console release, which aimed to replace Aerith’s fit witha gothic ensemblethat held true to Nomura’s design trademarks, like offering plenty of belts and chains, with hints of red plaid to add a splash of color. It can be slotted over their default and both Costa del Sol slots, and it pairs well with their War Tifa mod.
8Aerith’s Sexy Dress
Turning Heads & Breaking Hearts
Cool those jets. This isn’t aStreet Fighter 6Chun Li mod moment.Aerith’s Sexy Dressis just the name SoTotallySora gave to the red dress Aerith could wear inFF7 Remakeif players completed all six quests in Chapter 8. Still, it washer most dazzling optionin that section of the game. But much like Tifa’s purple ‘Mature’ dress, they were one-off items.
At least, until players modded them back in. In this case, SoTotallySora’s mod replaces her standard fit with the red dress, ruffles and all, which means its physics can get a little funny and suffer from clipping. But it won’t break the game and will remain stable, thanks to the additional help SoTotallySora got from WTails358’s super skeleton.
9Tifa And Aerith As Garnet (Dagger) From FF9
MakeFF7’s Leading Ladies Pay Homage ToFF9’s Princess
FF7became the big, groundbreaking hit that catapultedFinal Fantasyinto a global phenomenon. Still, that doesn’t mean it’s everyone’s favorite. Others prefer the unsung likes ofFF9, with its callbacks to all its prior games, its Shakespearean setting, and its charming characters — particularly its leading lady, Garnet.
Whether it’ll get more than a remaster is hard to say, but ifFF9fans want to feel more at home inFF7 Rebirth, they have a few options. StillUnoriginal adds in her Garnet-inspired dress fromFF7 Remakein theirAerith GarnetFF9mod, while mariagata’sTifa and Aerith as Garnetmods gave Aerith a slightly brighter Garnet dress and Tifa her full-on pantsuit fit to give fans double the Dagger and triple the fun.
10Rinoa Outfit For Aerith
Sadly, It Doesn’t Come With The Dog Cannon
As good asFF9is, it didn’t get as popular asFinal Fantasy 8, which couldn’t match the furorFF7whipped up. Still, some fans ended up preferring its characters and world, with many enjoying the love story between leads Squall and Rinoa that served as the game’s centerpiece. That, or they got curious over whether that ‘Squall Died’ theory held any water or not.
Nonetheless,FF8fans can feel more at home with vxsapphire’sRinoa Outfit for Aerithmod. It replaces her standard fit with Rinoa’s blue and black combo, alongside her white party dress forFF7 Rebirth’s Loveless play. As of this writing, the latter only turns up in the Loveless section, but with luck and time, it may become a toggleable option — or a separate mod of its own.
