Horror films are a dime a dozen these days, but film adaptations of horror games are decidedly more rare. That being said, one gaming franchise successfully made the leap to the big screen a few years ago and shows few signs of slowing down.

Unlike many video game-to-film adaptations over the past thirty years, movies based on horror games have done surprisingly well at the box office. The initialResident Evilfilm franchise ran for a whopping six movies, 2006’sSilent Hillgrossed nearly $100 million, and even something like 2005’s ill-fatedDoomadaptation starring Karl Urban and Dwayne Johnson is something of a cult classic. It should come as no great shock that Emma Tammi’s 2023Five Nights at Freddy’sadaptation was a success at the box office. What is a bit surprising is just how well it did: on a relatively paltry budget of $20 million,Five Nights at Freddy’sgobbled up approximately $300 million worldwide. TheFNAFfandom is large, but did anyone in Hollywood expectthe movie to be that big of a hit?

Well, Blumhouse Productions finally gave fans a taste of what they’ve been waiting for, and they didn’t disappoint. With CinemaCon going on this week, movie news and trailer drops have been coming in hot and heavy, andFNAF2is just the latest one to hit. Five Nights At Freddy’s 2Is Coming For You This December

Emma Tammi is back in the director’s chair forFive Nights at Freddy’s 2,and fans will be delighted to hear that the principal cast of the first movie is returning for round two. Josh Hutcherson is back as protagonist Mike Schmidt, Matthew Lillard returns as the sadistic killer/inventor William Afton, Elizabeth Lail plays Vanessa Shelly (William’s daughter, yikes), and Piper Rubio is also back as Mike’s younger sister, Abby.

Casting for the rest of the film has been pretty tight-lipped, but the teaser trailer did provide a promising glimpse at a genuine horror icon getting got onscreen yet again:Wayne Knight! Yes, the character actor is perhaps best known for playing Newman onSeinfeldand Officer Orville on3rd Rock from the Sun, but he also famously played Dennis Nedry inJurassic Park. Surely, all you ’90s kids will remember his three-minute-long death scene at the hands (claws?) of a dilophosaurus. It’s a classic.

Other than that exciting reveal, theFive Nights at Freddy’s 2teaseroffers more of the same: creepy vibes, killer animatronics, and Josh Hutcherson doing his thing. Here’s to hoping they have more ’90s horror actors in store for viewers, as well. They’ve already got Matthew Lillard (Scream) and Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park). Throw in some cast members fromI Know What You Did Last Summer,Tremors, andThe Blair Witch Project, and things would really get out of control!

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2is set to hit theatres on June 15, 2025.
