A portion ofFortniteplayers recently got some bad news, as it was just announced that the game’s OG Ranked Zero Build mode is being shut down tomorrow, March 4.Fortniteboasts a healthy roster of game modes, but the end of OG Ranked Zero Build is disappointing for some of the game’s fan base.
In an official tweet from the Fortnite Status account, the announcement stated, “We’re disabling OG Ranked Zero Build for all server regions due to matchmaking health.” The mode’s inability to amass a large player base is an understandable reason for disabling it, but it’s still a surprising development. What’s even more concerning, though, is that this could potentially open the door for other less popularFortnitemodes to meetthe same fate as OG Ranked Zero Build.
After OG Ranked Zero Build, Fortnite Could Set its Sights On Other Modes
Not everyFortnitemode has been a massive hit. The game boasts an impressive amount of traffic, but there are modes that clearly outshine others.Fortnite OG has been incredibly popular, and while OG Ranked Zero Build is a spin-off, it may have struggled to find its audience because of its more niche approach. However, the official reasoning being “matchmaking health” raises plenty of questions as to what exactly defines being healthy. Epic Games could have a very different idea of what counts as a low player base than the actual fans enjoying the mode, so the possibility of other modes being taken down risks upsetting a lot of players.
The mode may be shutting down on March 4, but EU and NAC servers will remain active until March 25. Until then, players outside those regions will be allowed to switch their settings in order to play on the active EU and NAC servers.
Less Popular Fortnite Modes are Hopefully Not On the Chopping Block
Last year, it was revealed thatFortnite’s Rocket Racing mode would be receiving less support moving forward. This racing counterpart has struggled to find the same audience as the other modes that it launched alongside, LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival. This Rocket Racing announcementfirst planted the seed that suggested otherFortnitemodes could be targeted in the future. Now that OG Ranked Zero Build is on track to be fully discontinued, it makes the stakes even more troubling for modes that have weaker followings.
2025 May See More Fortnite Shake-Ups
It’s important to note that Epic Games hasn’t confirmed if it plans to shut down any otherFortnitemodes or not, but it’s definitely not outside the realm of possibility anymore.Fortnitehas thrived for eight years now, and the many modes offered in the game are partially to thank for that impressive longevity. Over the years,Fortnitehas quickly become many games in one, but it’s clear that moving forward, Epic Games is likely to cut certain modes that don’t perform to its standards.
Fortnite OG became a permanent mode in December 2024. The regular build mode reached a whopping 1 million players 20 minutes into its launch.
Only time will tell if the year brings forth any other surprise shut-downs, but until then, players who are fond of OG Ranked Zero Build at least have a short amount of time to enjoy the game mode for a little while longer. While this is a let-down for some players,Fortnitestill offers a treasure trove of content. Even better, though, OG Zero Build is still around, which allows players to still enjoy this particular mode, just without the ranked part. Compared to the other in-game offerings, the loss of this mode is a small ripple in a larger pond, and it will hopefully be the only one felt intheFortnitecommunitythis year.
