After over a decade as a PS Vita exclusive title, 2014’sFreedom Warsfinally became available on multiple different platforms after its remastered version landed on PC, PS5, PS4, and Switch. The re-release not only brought upgraded resolution and framerate but also introducedextra features inFreedom Wars Remastered, such as a new difficulty level and a revamped weapon crafting system. Upon release, it was bombarded with poor reviews on Steam due to a plethora of technical issues in the PC port, ranging from slowdowns to frequent crashes. However, the devs at Dimps have been putting in the effort to address some of the reported issues, with four comprehensive patches shipped so far across all platforms.
On May 15, 2025,Freedom Wars Remasteredrolled outyet another update, following one in January and two in February, in a bid to resolve a number of different issues encountered by players of the third-person action title. The latest patch, which is available across all supported platforms, resolves the crashes taking place inside Request Cooperation rooms, the progression-blocking bug that prevented advancing beyond CODE 6’s events, and the bug that resulted in certain loadout changes not showing up when configuring the same just before an operation. On PC, the issue that wouldn’t let the player change the direction of charged heavy melee attacks while using keyboard-and-mouse has been fixed. On the PS4, those facing difficulties in selecting spawn points in Vs. Operations will no longer have issues.
In addition, there are several gameplay changes and adjustments forFreedom Wars Remasteredplayers. These include the revised behavior of the Accessories, tweaked hit detection of the Large Abductor’s gatling gun, matchmaking improvements, and more. Among the new things incorporated are the ability to dash when the dodge button is pressed down longer and the option to turn private rooms into custom rooms in the game’s multiplayer. Giving a glimpse into future patches, theFreedom Wars Remasteredteam shared that weapon balancing, new quality-of-life features, and more are on the agenda for future updates.
Based on the number of updatesFreedom Wars Remasteredhas received in less than two months of release, it appears as though the devs have been actively working on gaining the favor of fans again, especially after the launch of the buggy PC port. However, whether these patches improveBandai Namco’s gameenough to lead to a comeback on Steam, where it still has a “Mixed” rating, is anyone’s guess right now.
