With the show being designated as an Elseworlds project and left to its own creative choices, fans look forward to tons more content from the show.
While theHarley Quinnseries got a pass to continue on Maxunder the new DCU slate, James Gunn and company never specified how long it’d go on for. It was revealed a while back that the show hadn’t gotten a season 6 order yet, despite the fifth season being done and on the streamer already, which got fans worried. In a recent interview withTVLineon the occasion of the season five finale,Harley Quinnshowrunner Dean Lorey was asked about whether or not that final episode was purposely made cozy and definitive in view of the show potentially not making a return. “Not really. I mean, in my mind, it’s not a series finale,” Lorey responded. “I don’t think any of us making it want it to be a series finale. But it is the end of Season 5. So, if that were to be it, I think it is a nice series finale. We certainly plan to have more seasons.”
The Harley Quinn Series Should Get To Continue For At Least One More Year
The positive attitude that the creative team seems to have towards coming back for more content is commendable and a good sign that they’re ready to forge on. The anxiety around the show being picked up for another season is pretty justified, unfortunately. With the DCU getting closer and closer to its proper launch withSupermanand one successful animated show already out inCreature Commandos, the new era might not have the space to tolerate a project likeHarley Quinn.While its unique takes on its characters are entertaining to fans, they are objectively out of step with any possible version Gunn and company would be willing to put out in the mainline franchise, and could cause some confusion. Additionally, the show’s reach could be better to boost its chances. Despite being such a triumph and enthralling everyone who gives it a shot,Harley Quinn isn’t as popular as it should beamong general audiences, which could be part of the reason it’s not getting the preferential renewal access that fans think it should.
Harley Quinnis one of Kaley Cuoco’s best projectsand still has a ton of potential to give fans a new spin on DC’s massive backlog of mainstream and niche characters, as well as a dedicated fanbase eager to get back to the misadventures of Quinn and her friends. While WBD has made some pretty bad decisions in terms of keeping or canceling projects, fans can hold out hope that Gunn’s DC regime will come through and get the show renewed for a sixth season.
