Summary
Hasbro has recently spoken aboutBaldur’s Gate, and hinted at what the future will hold for the series. However, fans shouldn’t hold out for aBaldur’s Gate 3sequel any time soon, as that title is likely still far off in the future.
Baldur’s Gate 3was a massive success, and one that’s still keeping many gamers actively busy. The developers at Larian Studios hit it out of the park with the third main series entry in the franchise, an especially impressive feat considering it was the first time the studio had worked on aBaldur’s Gategame. However, withLarian Studios stepping away fromBaldur’s Gate, many fans have wondered what the future will hold for the franchise and how Hasbro will go about choosing a new developer.
At the 2025 Game Developer’s Conference,IGNspoke with Hasbro aboutBaldur’s Gateand what’s going on with the series. Hasbro SVP of digital games Dan Ayoub explained that “a lot of people” are interested inBaldur’s Gate, and that the company is working on plans for the future. An exciting element is that Ayoub says that “…in pretty short order, we’re going to have some stuff to talk about around that,” referring toBaldur’s Gate. It’s not known what kind of reveal he’s hinting at, but it seems like Hasbro has something in the works, likely other than a fullBaldur’s Gatesequel.
What About Baldur’s Gate 4?
WithLarian Studios out of the picture, many gamers have wondered about how a sequel to the title will be handled. Ayoub noted that whileBaldur’s Gate 4is something he wants, Hasbro will be taking a measured approach to ensure that the follow-up can meet expectations. Ayoub says the company has “got a lot of plans” and he didn’t want to “over-tease” it. Regarding the sequel, Ayoub notes that the hope is that Hasbro will keep raising the bar, leading to an impressive sequel that could ideally go even further thanBaldur’s Gate 3.
Considering thatBaldur’s Gate 3took seven years to develop, it could be years beforeBaldur’s Gate 4is even announced or teased. A new developer will have some huge shoes to fill in Larian’s absence, and players have high expectations. The incredible size and scope ofBaldur’s Gate 3was likely made possible in part by the amount of time that Larian was able to dedicate to it. While fans would surely love to see more of the world andcharacters ofBaldur’s Gatethat they’ve come to know and enjoy, rushing a sequel out likely wouldn’t make anyone happy. Thankfully,Baldur’s Gate 3has so much depth that players will likely keep discovering new paths and secrets for years to come.
