Hideo Kojima Is Watching Lazarus

Kojima posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he is watchingLazaruson TV. He added that it’s been a long time since he last watched anime on TV; the last time was whenLycoris Recoilwas released in 2022.

He felt nostalgic by watching it in real time, instead of just watching on streaming services after the TV broadcast, and he will probably do it more often from now on.

Kojima actuallyposts about the things he watches quite frequently, but he usually does it on his Japanese account. Updates about the series or movies he’s been watching on his English profile are rarer, which makes sense, as it is probably more natural for him to post in Japanese.

Lazarus: What Is It About And Where To Watch It?

Lazarusis the latest creation byShinichiro Watanabe(Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). It isset in the same universe asCowboy Bebop— well, actually, every anime created by Watanabeis supposed to take place in the same universe. ButLazarusis even more special because it takes place only a few decades beforeBebop, while the other series are set centuries apart.

The series airs in both Japan and in the US — the American audience can watch it everySaturday at midnight ET (that’s Friday at 9 PM PST) on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block. Later, the episodes are added toMAX, and that’s when they reach the rest of the world — but, apparently, dubbed in English at first.

It has been confirmed that the series will have a total of 13 episodes, so it will end around June. There is no information about a potential Season 2, but Watanabe doesn’t usually create sshows that run for too many seasons.

Lazarusfeatures an amazing staff, includingJohn Wickdirector,Chad Stahelski, whodesigned the action sequences.Takahiro Ozawa(Mazinger Z Movie: Infinity),Dai Sato(Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex)andTsukasa Kondo(Altered Carbon: Resleeved) wrote the scripts with Watanabe. StudioMAPPA(Jujutsu Kaisen) is in charge of the animation.

Lazarus is first broadcast on Toonami (Adult Swim), and then added to streaming platforms.
