After a long wait,Hitman: World of Assassinationis finally coming to PlayStation VR2 later this March. The stealth shooter series had ventured into virtual reality before on the Meta Quest and the first PSVR system but didn’t make much of an impact compared to its non-VR releases. Hopes forHitman: World of Assassinationon PSVR 2 have been higher, thanks to the new hardware and IO Interactive taking its time with development, and fans won’t have to wait much longer to try it out.
Despite the rebranded trilogy releasing back in 2023, it’s had a relatively strong start to 2025. On January 10,World of Assassinationpassed 75 million players, possibly making it IO Interactive’s most successful title to date. The team has also continued to support the game and add new content, like adding Jean-Claude Van Damme as a limited-time target from December 2024 to January 2025. That ongoing support is far from over, too, as evidenced by the approaching release of the much-hyped PSVR 2 version.
IO Interactive offered a new look at the game’s PSVR 2 gameplay during the March 11 VR Games Showcase, confirming a release date of March 27. Sony announcedWorld of Assassination’s PSVR 2 port would launch in 2025in November of last year when it came out that IO was delaying the game, which was originally slated for a December 2024 release. Now that the wait is coming to an end, it’s clear that the studio had reason to push its PSVR 2 release back. The latest trailer shows off several VR-specific mechanics that should make the game all the more engaging.
Hitman: World of Assassination Will Arrive on PlayStation VR2 on March 27
World of Assassination’s PSVR 2 port will offer full ambidexterity, letting players reload, aim, steal disguises, and perform other actions with two hands the same way they would in real life. It’ll also take advantage of the system’s adaptive triggers and enable spatial interactions with objects players find themselves near. All in all, it seems like the game is taking full advantage of the platform’s technical specs, which is nice to see after a Sony execfelt the need to apologize for the PSVR 2after its disappointing launch.
Anyone who already ownsHitman: World of Assassinationon PS5 will be able to upgrade to the VR version for just $9.99. Now that Sony haspermanently discounted the PSVR 2, that deal could make it a good time for fans to dip their toes into VR. Players can also grab the PSVR 2 version ofHitman: World of Assassination - Part One,which just includesHitman 1maps and a handful of additional content, for $39.99.
