One of the reasonsMonster Hunter Wildsstill has a way to go when it comes to attracting completely new players to the franchise is due to thevague item and skill descriptionsthat don’t provide actual numbers on what they do.

One of the more notable examples of this is the Burst skill, which says it gives a large attack and elemental damage boost when activated but doesn’t actually explain how much. Players confused by this will want to know how it works. Here is the breakdown.

The base requirement to fully activate the Burst skill is toattack a monster five times with no more than a three-second gap between individual hits. As long as a hit is registered within the three second window, it counts as a consecutive hit for the purposes of Burst’s activation.

Burst’s elemental damage boost does not increase the status build-up rate for statuses like Poison and Paralysis. It only applies to pure elemental damage.

Once Burst is fully activated, a timer for the hit counter appears on the top left corner of the screen, just above the health bar, to indicate how many seconds players have before Burst deactivates. Every attack you land during Burst’s activation refills this hit counter, topping it up to a maximum of five. Essentially, players can easily have 100% Burst upkeep time as long as they keep landing hits.

Ebony Odogaron’s Poweris a complementary Skill that increases the duration between consecutive hits from three seconds to five seconds and the attack boost granted by the Burst skill to +10 (at level 2). It can be found on the G Ebony Set and its Alpha and Beta variants. These sets are fromGuardian Ebony Odogaron.

Is Burst Worth It in Monster Hunter Wilds

Yes, very much so.Burst is one of the absolute best skills in all ofMH Wilds. It is especially potent when paired withfaster weapons like the Dual Blades, Charge Blade, and Insect Glaive, which can deal a large number of hits in a very short window of time, quickly reaching full activation within seconds. Since there is no internal delay for registering successive hits, the faster you attack, the better Burst is.

Slower weapons can also benefit from Burst, but players have to be skilled at landing consecutive hits within five seconds of each other to take full advantage of it.
