Mantles can improve your performance inMonster Hunter Wilds. While they aren’t mandatory for every hunt, careful usage of them can drastically cut down the time it takes to bring a monster down, and out of all the mantles in the game, the Corrupted Mantle is the best one for speeding up your clears.
Out ofall the mantles inMH Wilds, the Corrupted Mantle is the riskiest to use. However, it rewards daring players by significantly increasing their damage output. There are a few nuances regarding this works, so here’s what we know about this mantle so far for those who are curious.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Corrupted Mantle Effect
According to the in-game description,Corrupted Mantle improves weapon performance and increases the player’s Affinity and Attack when worn, and it provides additional Affinity and Attack bonuses after hitting a monster enough times. From our testingusing a Long Sword, the actual raw benefits that Corrupted Mantle gives players are:
While the Corrupted Mantle is equipped, it willcontinuously drain your health, as per the item’s description. However, if you start attacking a monster, the health drain effect will stop. It’s unclear if this is an intended mechanic, though if it is, players can treat it similar tohow Frenzy works inMH Wilds.
The extra hit feature appears to work differently with each weapon. Long Sword attacks hit one additional time, and so do uncharged Great Sword attacks. However, a fully-charged Greatsword attack hits three times, and a True Charged Slash’s second attack hits four times. Meanwhile, the Dual Blades Y/Triangle combo while in Demon Mode usually hits nine times, but this goes up to 14 with the mantle.
Bows also benefit from the Corrupted Mantle’s extra hit function. A normal Bow Triangle/Y combo deals six hits in total, but with the Corrupted Mantle, this goes up to 12. The combo’s damage against the dummy in the training area went from 147 to 194,which translates to about a ~30% increase.
Is the Corrupted Mantle Worth Using?
If you’re confident in your skills, then the Corrupted Mantle is absolutely worth using. The health drain becomes a non-issue if you can keep up the assault, and you can counter it entirely by using the Decimator set bonusfrom the Arkveld set, which lets you restore health by continuously attacking a monster.
However, the mileage you get from this mantle depends on what weapon you’re using. You may be better off using the Evasion Mantle in some cases — this gives a +30% boost to Attack on a perfect dodge, and it gives you more i-frames to work with too, allowing for easier dodging while the mantle is active.
