Status Ailments inMH Wildsoffer some very useful effects, and a skill like Critical Status can potentially make hunts go by much more quickly. In this short guide, we’ll briefly go over how Critical Status works to help you figure out if it’s worth using over other skills.
What is Critical Status in MH Wilds?
Critical Statusmakes your weapons inflict Status Ailments faster whenever you score a critical hit. It goes hand-in-hand with the Affinity stat, and in a way, it works similarly tohow elemental damage does inMH Wilds.
To understand how Critical Status works, players must know how Status Ailments are applied. Imagine it like this: every monster in the game has a hidden bar for each type of Status Ailment, and once that bar is filled up, the ailment will trigger.
For example, if a hit from your weapon inflicts 10 Paralysis, and a monster’s hidden Paralysis bar can only take 100 points' worth of Paralysis, then you’ll Paralyze that monster in 10 hits. If you have Critical Status, you’ll apply more Paralysis points when you critically hit, which means you’ll be able to inflict Paralysis in less hits.
Critical Status does notincrease a Status Ailment’s damage or effect intensity.It only makes you apply it quicker, which is useful once you consider that monsters gradually become more resistant to Status Ailments after they get afflicted with one.
Should You Use Critical Status?
Critical Status is only worth usingif it’s already part of your weapon as an innate skill(like with theLala Harpactirs). This is due to a couple of reasons:
If you have a Crit Stat 3 Jewel, then it might be worth using if it comes with a useful secondary skill like Handicraft, Ironwall, or KO. Still, it’s not something that should take priority over other skills that have a much stronger impact on a build.
