Summary
Lilo & Stitchfeatures various aliens and characters with larger-than-life personalities, all of which dominate the iconicDisneyanimation. However, many audiences overlook one of the most important elements ofLilo & Stitch, which is the mosquitos.
These tiny insects might appear ordinary to audiences when compared to the likes of Pleakley, Catai Gantu, and Jumba Jookiba. However, they play a crucial role in the movie, and that’s an aspect of the story that many forget when it comes to this iconic story that is soon to be brought back to life in a Disney live-action reboot.
How Do Mosquitos Play A Role In Lilo & Stitch?
The focus ofwhat happens inLilo & Stitchis on Experiment 626’s crash landing on Earth and the impact that might cause. There is initial fear among the aliens about what he would do to the planet due to his destructive nature, but because he escapes, they have to take action. The Grand Councilwoman suggests that they simply eradicate Earth as an easy way of guaranteeing that Stitch is destroyed. That appears set to happen right at the start ofLilo & Stitch, but Pleakley puts a stop to it due to his role as the resident Earth expert. He reveals to the Grand Councilwoman that mosquitos are an endangered species and are also protected, which stops them from blowing up the country.
Pleakley showcases photographs of the insects, and that is what sets up the premise of the entire movie, as he is sent to Earth himself with Jookiba ina bid to capture Stitch. That’s where the cat-and-mouse aspect ofLilo & Stitchcomes into place, with these two supporting characters providing even more comedy throughout the film. Pleakley also gets to encounter some mosquitoes firsthand during his trip as they end up covering his body where they end up stinging him, which provides a joke that plenty of people are aware of.
The Mosquitos Also Connect Cobra Bubbles
Pleakley might play a significant role in keeping Earth safe at the start, but that’s something that dates back many years prior toLilo & Stitch’stimeline. That’s because when he was a CIA agent, Cora Bubbles was the one who actually convinced them that Earth should be a protected wildlife reserve. He was involved in the Roswell incident, which is where he gained the trust of the Grand Councilwoman. He convinces the Grand Councilwoman that the mosquitos are an endangered species despite knowing that the insects are actually commonplace around the world. His work helped Earth out, and the connection they have from the past is highlighted at the end when Bubbles helps Lilo keep Stitch permanently.
The only reasonStitch is able to stay in Hawaiiis because of the fact Bubbles has a connection with the aliens, as he played a key role in keeping the peace between those two worlds in the past. Yet again, mosquitos were at the heart of that, which is something that a lot of moviegoers aren’t aware of, as people end up overlooking it because there are so many other things going on throughout the film due to the hilarious antics of the lead characters themselves. However, their impact can be overlooked because neither Lilo nor Stitch is involved in focusing on the mosquitoes.

It’s unclear whether or notthe live-actionLilo & Stitchwill also place such a prominent focus on mosquitos, making the insect a crucial part of the story. However, the clips that have been shown so far prove that the movie appears to be very accurate when it comes to the animated original, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the insects appear within the story once again. They might not be a massive part of the film in terms of being talking characters, but the insects do have a much bigger role in the overall plot than people realize. It’s something that should impactLilo & Stitchagain when the live-action reveals, as it would be tough to explain some of the decisions and connections without something such as that to connect them.
