Aside from being another source for endgame gear, Delves also provide a challenge for players to overcome. For one reason or another, there is always a big bad that is an exclusive antagonist for each season of Delve content. For the first season ofWorld of Warcraft: The War Within, that Nemesis was Zekvir. Since the second season is all aboutthe Undermine, the Nemesis this time around is a goblin named the Underpin. He uses a powerful mech equipped with an incredibly deadly arsenal. While he isn’tas tough as Zekvir, the Underpin can be a difficult foe to overcome as there are so many things that can go wrong.
How to Unlock the Underpin in WoW: The War Within
Just like Zekvir, the Underpin has two difficulties. “Tier ?” unlocks when you completea Tier 7 Delve. The much more difficult “Tier ??” unlocks after you complete a Tier 10 Delve. For “Tier ?”, it is recommended to be at least item level 639, but it is possible to beat Underpin at a lower item level than that.
How to Beat the Underpin in WoW: The War Within
Before discussing mechanics, here are the abilities that the Underpin casts regularly:
Make sure to haveBrann set to healer, and use the L00T RAID-R curio to boost your damage. The most important thing about this fight is to be aware of your surroundings at all times. If the Underpin is casting Crush or Flamethrower, you don’t want to be within range of either ability. You also need to be mindful of where the Time Bombs are, as ignoring them can put you in a bad situation where you aren’t able to get out of range in time or the only place to run to is into another attack.
When the adds are up, killing them should be your top priority. In addition to the lines they leave on the ground that you will want to stay out of, they will periodically shoot a smaller attack at you. One or two of these is no big deal, but if all the adds are alive and shooting you, it adds up pretty quickly. Adds will keep spawning too, and not killing them fast enough all but guarantees a wipe.
The Cronies have a lot of health, and it takes too long to just DPS them down. Instead, use the Time Bombs to kill them quickly.When you approach a Time Bomb, you will see a blue arrow indicating the direction that it will move when you kick it.These bombsblow up instantly when they enter the hitbox of a Cronie, and they damage all Cronies near it.The Cronies can die in about two to three bombs, and even if they don’t, they will usually have less than one million health left, which is pretty easy to burn down at item level 630 or higher.
If all the adds are dead and the bombs are mostly under control, you can focus on damaging the Underpin. If there is still an add or two up and the Underpin is casting Recharge, you will want to focus on breaking the shield down first before continuing with the adds. The Underpin healing up may not cause a wipe, but it means there will be more oil spills on the ground that you have to work around.
Essentially, this fight breaks down to mastery over the mechanics. If you can juggle dealing with adds, moving any extra bombs away from where you are fighting the Underpin, and stay out of any of the telegraphed attacks, you will have no trouble beating the Underpin. It just takes practice, patience, and knowing what to prioritize at any given time.
One of the biggest issues with this boss is when a bomb is directly within the hitbox of the Underpin.Because of how big the Underpin is, it is nigh on impossible to click on a bomb when it is under him. To get around this, go into settings and enable the Interact Key.With this setting, you can bind a key so that when you are close enough to an object you can just press the button rather than having to mouse over and click it.
Tier ?? Differences
Unlike Zekvir who had a second phase on “Tier ??” difficulty, the Underpin gains a new ability. He will fire into the sky and then little circles will appear all over the ground. So you will have to juggle all the mechanics of the fight while staying out of those circles. The Underpin also does more damage and also spawns more Cronies at a faster rate.
