The Ghoul Within Update has gone live inFallout76and players can nowexplore the ruins of post-war Appalachia as a Ghoul. This feature has its own questline, new appearance customization options, new perks, and more. Becoming a Ghoul is a pretty big decision. While it is possible to revert back to a human after becoming a Ghoul, you’re able to only do this once for free. After that, it will cost 1000 Atoms to switch back.
The route to becoming a Ghoul is actually relatively straightforward. However, whether it’s worth it is something that is up for debate. This guide will go over the steps required to become a Ghoul and look at the pros and cons surrounding this new feature.
How To Become A Ghoul
Before you have the option of becoming a Ghoul,you’ll need to be at least level 50.While new players can purchase an item from the Atomic Shop for 1500 Atoms that instantly increases their level to 50, it’s much more beneficial to simply leave the Vault at level 20 and complete missions and events to get to level 50.

Is Becoming A Ghoul Worth It?
Becoming a Ghoul can be very beneficial.However, this all depends on your playstyle.Being a Ghoul has some positives and some negatives.You can see some of them in the table below:

There are quite a few negative effects that come with the feral ability. This includes some pretty hefty debuffs, such as decreases to certain SPECIAL stats.
If you want to become a tanky player, then becoming a Ghoul might be a good option.Also, if you enjoy using melee weapons, then you’ll be able to do extra damage without needing to use a Bloodied build. It is a fun new playstyle that is unlike anything seen so far and is definitely worth trying out. Players should consider following the questline and experimenting with various Ghoul builds.
However, this build is definitely not for everyone.If you visit certain areas as a Ghoul, then you will have to wear a disguise.This is pretty easy to do. However, it does get a little tedious after a while. This is probably the most noticeable drawback, especially for players who need to visit locations such as Fort Atlas and The Whitespring Bunker often for quests. To get a disguise, you’ll need tohead to Radiant Hills. Once you are there, speak to Jaye Vo. She will give you disguises that you can wear so you can still enter all of the locations on the map.
One thing that players can do is to become a Ghoul using another character. By doing this, you get all of the fun of exploring Ghoul builds without the drawback of having to change your main character’s loadout. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to get tolevel 50 with this secondary character. While getting to level 50 might sound time-consuming, there are more than enough public events that can help you get to level 50 in just a couple of hours. If that seems too time-consuming, then there is always the option to purchase an item from the Atomic Shop that will automatically set your new character’s level to 50. This will cost 1500 Atoms.
How To Revert Back To A Human After Becoming A Ghoul
Becoming a Ghoul isn’t a permanent decision. Every player can revert back to being a human once for free. However, after doing this, you’ll need to pay with Atoms to change again. Changing back to human is very easy. Simply leave the game and go to the main menu. From here, select characters. This will bring up a list of all of the characters you have created. Any character that has been turned into a Ghoul will have a small radiation symbol next to its name.
At the bottom of the screen, there will be a button prompt that will allow you to revert back to your human form. After you’ve done this, the next time you load into a world, you’ll be back to your original character. However, if you’ve made any perk changes that make use of the Ghoul-only perks, then they will automatically be removed from your loadout, so you’ll need to fixyour perk selection.
As mentioned, you can still switch back and forth between being a Ghoul and being human.But this will cost 1000 Atoms for each transformation.So, unless you have plenty of Atoms to spend, it’s best to avoid doing this if possible.
