How to Level Up in Phasmophobia

Phasmophobiafeatures a leveling system that’s pretty classic in the basic sense. You start at Level 1 with a very bare-bones set of ghost-hunting equipment, and you need to gain experience to not only increase your investigator level but also expand and upgrade your equipment loadout. There are three tiers for each type of equipment, and as you level up, you’ll automatically unlock more options on each of those tiers.

The experience you need to level comes in the form of money earned from your investigations. To earn that money, you need to complete various objectives during said investigations. Whilecorrectly identifying the ghostis your main goal and an objective in itself, there are other things you can do to boost your profits. For instance, satisfy the optional objectives that you’re given on the bulletin board inside the van. Each one is worth money; completing all of them isn’t required but still recommended.

Otherwise, track down and pick up the bone clue hidden somewhere around the location, which will be a piece of a human skeleton. You can also take up to nine photos using the camera provided in your loadout. The more you take and the higher their rating (1-3 stars), the more money you’ll receive. If you manage to do all the aforementioned objectives and guess the ghost correctly, you’ll earn a ‘perfect investigation bonus’ for your efforts. Furthermore, the difficulty setting you choosecan also influence your earnings.

The money you receive from all that you do during an investigation serves two purposes. First, it acts as XP for your level gauge, which helps you unlock more features and eventually reach prestige. Second, the money also goes to your in-game wallet, which you use to fund your equipment loadout for each investigation. You can go up to Level 100 or even beyond, depending on your choices when prestiging.

How to Prestige in Phasmophobia

Once your character reaches Level 100, you’ll be given a unique opportunity back at the Main Menu to ‘Prestige.’ Similar to other games with this feature, prestiging is a means of account progression that provides you with special customization rewards for doing so. In essence, your character earns a distinction for the progress you’ve made.

However, there is a catch to prestiging inPhamsophobiathat is important to keep in mind before you pull the trigger. While you will receive the customization rewards, your level will reset back to Level 1 (accompanied by a Roman numeral denoting your new prestige level). This means thatall the equipment you unlocked and upgraded will also resetalong with your in-game wallet funds. All the map locations and difficulty settings you previously unlocked will remain accessible.

The game will explicitly warn you of this stipulation before allowing you to prestige, ensuring that you know what to expect going forward. It will also show you the new customization you’re able to unlock for that specific prestige level. If you feel comfortable starting over from Level 1, then select the ‘Prestige’ button.

The game will ask you once more if you’re sure, as this can’t be undone. Select ‘Yes,’ and your level will immediately reset to Level 1.Your equipment loadout will also resetto a handful of Tier 1 items, and your wallet will now hold zero dollars.

If you don’t want to prestige, you can hold off on doing so as long as you want. The blue Prestige button will remain accessible on your main menu, and you will continue to gain experience beyond Level 100. There are no further equipment upgrades to unlock beyond that point.

If you often playPhasmophobiasolo, starting back over can make for a tough grnd. However, if you prefer to play with friends, a strategy you can use to ensure that you always have top-of-the-line equipment (except during weekly challenges) is for one person to prestige while the other remains at their current level. Then, once the person who prestiged regains their max level, they can pass the baton and allow the other person to prestige for their rewards.

Prestige Rewards in Phasmophobia

Each time you prestige inPhasmophobia, you get to unlock a new ID card customization for your character along with a new title, allowing you to show off your progress. This is in addition to unique badges provided during the game’s seasonal events.

The game currently allows you to go up toPrestige 20, and there is a different customization option for each one. The first 10 prestige levels each provide a unique title, background design, and badge for your ID, while the remaining levels provide animated versions of those designs along with the ‘Commissioner’ title, the game’s current highest rank.
