Monsters inMonster Hunter Wildsare not solitary creatures that exist in a vacuum. They inhabit a living, breathing world shared by other monsters and creatures. The idea is to create an ecosystem of wildlife that interacts with one another.
A monster intruding on another monster’s territory is a common occurrence, and so is thepresence of alpha variantsthat form herds of lesser monsters around themselves. When a player wants to hunt these monsters, separating them from the pack and isolating them becomes the top priority, as fighting multiple monsters at the same time is a recipe for disaster. Here is how to do it.
How to Separate Monster Herds in Monster Hunter Wilds
Players can separate large monster herds and isolate their target usinga Large Dung Pod, a Dung Pod, or a Luring Pod (slinger ammo). The usage method is fairly simple and only requires a little bit of effort before it becomes second nature.
Large Dung Pod
If a lot of large monsters are traveling in a pack or fighting each other, throw a Large Dung Pod in their vicinity. Make sure to hit the center of the area they are occupying so that the stench of the Large Dung Pod catches everyone in the blast zone, and they are all affected. If done correctly, the monsters in the area will immediately disperse, running to different locations.
Dung Pod
The Dung Pod works exactly the same way as a Large Dung Pod, but while the Large Dung Pod covers a huge area, the Dung Pod is a single-target item meant to affect only one monster at a time. The way to use this item is to throw it directly at the monster players are hunting. Whichever monster it lands on will be the one to run away from the pack, the rest will remain unaffected.
Luring Pod
Luring Pods do what they say on the tin: lure monsters away from the pack. Functionally, they serve the same purpose as a Dung Pod but with an even more focused approach. Fire the Luring Pod slinger ammo at the target you want to hunt, and a red line will appear, originating from the hunter’s body in the direction of the monster being lured. Run away while riding on the Seikret to put some distance between yourself and the herd. The Luring Pod willremain active for up to 50 seconds, giving you plenty of time to isolate the monster.
If players are hunting a large monster and are suddenly attacked or ambushed by a second monster mid-hunt, they can separate the target from the new monster by dealing enough damage to force it to move locations and thentrack it to the next spot.
