Dragon Ball Daima Designer Would Love To Work On It

Nakatsuru Thinks A Remake Will Happen

First of all, it is important to establish the context of the original statement. Ina recent interview,Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, the character designer ofDragon Ball Daima, said that he thinks that a remake will happen one day, after being asked aboutDBZ.

In any case, the original work exists… and from there, there are multiple ways to create a new series. Since I think it will happen one day…

He also commented that he would love to work on it, but added that his involvement is not the most important thing about it.

Nakatsuru also said that he wishes that the franchise would one day “go beyond Toriyama’s imagination,” which may or may not be linked withDragon Ball Super, the official sequel to the story that, probably, only Toyotaro will be writing now (when it comes back from hiatus, that is).

It is important to note thatNakatsuru did not confirm that a remake is in production or even being planned, but he seems certain that it will eventually happen. Of course, this news was mostly welcomed by many fans, although some would rather see new stories for the franchise.

Also, some might wonder ifDragon Ball Z Kaiisn’t already aDBZremake, butKaiis a re-cut with improved visuals (basically, a filler-free remaster). A remake would mean re-drawing the series, and probably offering something more similar toDaima’s graphics, employing newer technologies.

Is It Time For A Dragon Ball Z Remake?

Despite the seemingly good news, “eventually” is a vague concept. It seems likely thatDragon Ball Zwill be remade someday, but “someday” could be quite far from today. But would it be a good time to remake the series now, if there are any plans?

Honestly, this is probably the perfect time not only for aDBZremake, but for a complete remake of the series, from Chapter 1 to Chapter 519— that is,Dragon BallandDragon Ball Zremade into a single anime. Story-wise, it would even make more sense to do it this way. But it would be a long series, even without the fillers, so maybedividing it into seasonsinstead of airing it all at once would be a better approach. Also, at this point,a remake would probably also retcon a few events in the series.

Dragon Ball Daimaproved not only that the series is still strong, but also that there are a lot of fans who still enjoy the adventurous vibes of the classicDragon Ballanime. WhileDBZmay be more popular due to the intense action, there is a lot of room fora full “Dragon Ballrevival"or even a “classicDragon Ballrevival.”

MakingDragon BallandDragon Ball Zeasily accessible to new audiences on many different streaming services is a way to bring younger people into the series, but redoing everything from scratch would have even more potential to attract new fans to the original story — if it is done well, of course.

The Potential Challenges of Remaking Dragon Ball

ADragon Ballor aDragon Ball Zremake might not be that simple, though — at least, not right now. As far as we know, therights to the franchise are in disputebetween Tokyo Capsule Corporation (led by Akio Iyuko) and Shueisha. This means that probably anyDragon Ballproject, especially a manga-related project, would step into the line of fire of this litigation.

For this reason, it may be a better idea to look to the future andcreate new stories for the franchiseinstead of trying to revive the manga once again.

Dragon Ball Zis currentlyavailable to stream on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed in English and other languages.
