Summary

Scream 7will make fans happy bytelling a fresh story about final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell),bringing legacy characters back, and introducing a new Ghostface (or a few different ones).Screamis my favoritehorrorfranchise because I appreciate how the original 1996 movie started so many slasher movie trends. The film poked fun at the genre, pointed out how many characters make silly choices while running from villains, and proved that a well-crafted villain needs a solid motive. WhenScream 7comes out on February 27th, 2026, I’ll be more than ready to see Sidney, Ghostface, and the other popular characters again.

But, like other fans who will seeScream 7the first chance they get, I’m curious about whether the franchise could continue after the upcoming slasher sequel.IfScream 7has a big, bold, and shocking twist,I think that could set up an equally compellingScream 8, and I would be curious to see how it plays out.

If Sidney Prescott Dies In Scream 7, Could Scream 8 Be A Prequel?

Fans havedebated whether Sidney Prescott could get killed by Ghostface inScream 7and while some say that could never happen, others are convinced it could. If the upcoming slasher sequel makes this huge decision and ifScream 8is greenlit, I think there is still a way for Neve Campbell to appear in it:ifScream 8is a prequel.

Since fans are curious about what Sidney’s life looked like when her mom Maureen Prescott was alive, I think it would be interesting to explore this in an entire film. TheScreamprequel could also feature the first two Ghostface killers Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) and show how they put their plan into place. It’sexciting that Stu will appear inScream 7, and there’s no reason why Lillard can’t appear in the next movie as well. While the actors are of course older than they were when they filmedScream, which was released in 1996, makeup and de-aging could help them look young enough for a prequel.

Some fans feel thattheScreamfranchise should continue without Sidneybecause, while she’s a beloved final girl, her story has been told in five movies already. Sidney is my favorite final girl and I like that she’s smart, compassionate, and always stands up for herself. But ifScream 7spotlights Sidney’s family, introduces her husband Mark Evans (Joel McHale), and then she dies, her character arc would be complete, and the franchise can move on without her. If more movies were made, the new generation could take over, as long as the new characters are as well-written, funny, and clever as Sidney. But I would also like to see a prequel about Sidney’s life before the events ofScream.I would also be interested in learning Ghostface came to be.

AScreamprequel could also share more about legacy characters such asDewey Riley (David Arquette), who will be inScream 7, and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). I would be happy to see how Dewey and Gale start their careers and how Gale gets involved in writing about and trying to solve Maureen Prescott’s murder.

What Would Fans Want To See In Future Scream Movies?

Screamfans have wondered about a new trilogyfor a while now, and ifScream 8is greenlit, it’s possible there could be aScream 9andScream 10, too. Fans have discussed ideas for moreScreammovies onReddit, with one fan suggesting:

“I think, if Scream were to make an 8, 9, & 10 movie - new trilogy, it’d focus on Sidney’s kids when they’re of age with a Killer(s) going after them. & I hope Williamson writes it!”

Fans will get to knowSidney Prescott’s daughter, played by Isabel May, inScream 7, andif she isn’t Ghostfaceor a victim of Ghostface, it’s possible she could appear in a future movie. Another fan wrote:

“I think they should do a summer camp. It’s the one trope Scream hasn’t touched yet.”

In anotherRedditthread, a fan suggested said “8 would be ideal” for theScreamfranchise and added:

“You could haveScream 8be likeScream 4with a big timeskip and have Sidney’s kids be around and the core four are all adults now.”

Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) and Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) won’t appear inScream 7.But, sincethe other two Core Four members, Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding), are coming back, perhaps they could appear inScream 8as this fan suggested.
