Summary
Invinciblecreator Robert Kirkman addressed some questions about the fourth season. He also addressed whether they have specific storylines being developed for Season 4.
Invincibleis one of the most successful animated series onAmazon PrimeVideos. The show is an adaptation of a comic book written by Kirkman, illustrated by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, and published by Image Comics. All three seasons were well-received, with the last one having a perfect 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It also received 93% approval from over 1,000 audience as of this writing. Because the third season was such a hit, fans couldn’t wait for the next season to drop. Kirkman was asked about it in a recent interview and whether they had a storyline in mind to pursue for Season 4.
Kirkman appeared onThe Invincible Podcast, where he was asked about the anticipated fourth season. He was also asked for specific storylines fans could expect in Season 4. However, the series creator said their focus was to “get Season 4 done” and he didn’t give any specifics regarding next season’s plot. “I mean, we haven’t really had time to really consider that, it’s a problem for the future. Right now, we’re just trying to get Season 4 done, so we’ll see,“Kirkman explained. When pressed further about whetherInvincibleSeason 4 would be released next year, Kirkman just laughed and said:
We’ll see if we make it.
He also addressed the” grey areas” of the show and its main character, Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), not being right all the time. In the show, Grayson is still a teenager figuring out his world after inheriting his father Omni-Man’s superpowers who betrayed them. Kirkman acknowledged that some fans probably found it frustrating that the lead character isn’t right all the time and they can’t agree with his choices. However, Kirkman said it was “kind of cool,” adding that it placed Mark Grayson in a “great place to grow and evolve” for future seasons. Mark has to go through all those challenges to strengthen his character, especially since a terrifying villain will arrive in the next season. Kirkman confirmed that Thragg, the ultimate villain in the franchise, will make its debut in the upcoming season. A post on Invincible’s official X account announced thatthey just cast Thragg. However, they didn’t go into details as to who would voice the supervillain.
Although Kirkman didn’t confirmInvincibleSeason 4’s release next year, the team is likely targeting to drop the fourth season in 2026. Kirkman wants to maintain the series' momentum, and the production is already underway, so there is a chance that they will finish on time for a 2026 release. However, animation can be complex and usually takes longer to finish, so it’s also possible that they might not finish it next year, so Kirkman didn’t want to commit. But he said they were trying to get it done, so at least they had a target. Invincible Season 1 was announced in 2018 and released in March 2021. The second season was released 2.5 years later, on July 09, 2025, andSeason 3premiered on July 23, 2025. The gap between seasons 2 and 3 is only 1 year and 3 months, so if Season 4 is already in production, a 2026 release is still possible, probably by the second or third quarter of the year.
As for the storyline,InvincibleSeason 4 might adaptthe ViltrumiteWar story because it’s an important event from the comics. The arc involves an intense conflict between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrum Empire, with Mark at the center of the battle. Mark is roughly around 20 at the time, so Kirkman might pick that up. This plot includes brutal confrontations, complex moral dilemmas and evolving relationships, which are crucial for Mark’s growth and development.
