He was also part of the star-studded historical dramaOppenheimer,directed by Christopher Nolan, which also starred Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Emily Blunt to name a few. Animation fans will know him from voicing Clark Kent/Superman inMy Adventures with Supermanand Brad Boiler inStar Trek: Lower Decks. His most recent movie is the newly released action thrillerNovocaine, where he played the lead role of a man who doesn’t feel any pain. Now he’s letting it be known that there is one specific franchise he wants to be part of.
Last week, days before Novocaine’s official release,Quaid participated in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA). One fan asked him what his “absolute dream role” was, noting that it could be a “hypothetical movie adaptation or video game that hasn’t been made.” Quaid admitted that he wanted to be part of the live-action adaptation of Irrational Games’BioShock. “I would actually love to be in a live-action adaptation of BioShock - one of my favorite games of all time,” he replied. The video game published by 2K Games is a mix of philosophical storytelling and immersive world-building with unique first-person gameplay. It was released in 2007 and players control the protagonist named Jack, a survivor of a plane crash. Quaid added:
I think there’s such a rich lore to that game that could be explored in a TV or movie adaptation.
Fans were supportive of Quaid, with some pointing out he already had the lead character’s first name. Netflix is developing a live-action adaptation of the acclaimed video game series in collaboration with Vertigo Entertainment and 2K. The project was officially announced in February 2022, withThe Hunger Gamesdirector Francis Lawrenceattached to helm the project and Michael Green (LoganandBlade Runner) as the scriptwriter. The anticipated BioShock film is still in development and there’s been no official announcement about the cast. Meanwhile, aside from BioShock, Quaid admitted his resemblance to Max Payne, the titular lead of Rockstar Games’ neo-noir third-person shooter games. However, he was honest enough to admit that he hasn’t played any entry in the series, so it was a second choice. He said:
I’ve seen people say that I look like Max Payne, and when I’ve looked at the box art, even I did a double-take. I love Rockstar’s games, but unfortunately I’ve never played that one - it’s next on the list, for sure.
Assuming the adaptation actually gets off the ground, Quaid could be a great choice to leadBioShockbecause he’s a versatile actor who could pull off a relatable character in an unfamiliar world. He is also no stranger to horror, sci-fi, and action, so he can surely handleBioShock’s intense and eerie atmosphere. There is no doubt that Quaid could pull it off as Jack or evenMax Payne.Novocainehas proven that he has the charisma to lead pretty much any action franchise at this point.
