Summary
One of theDCactors who will debut inSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowhas recently been speaking up about his role. He was so convinced he was “born” for the part that he simply cannot contain his excitement.
James Gunn and Peter Safran decided to discontinue theDC Extended Universeand reboot it withDC Universewhen they took over as co-chairmen for DC Studios. Following their takeover, they recast major characters. For example, the replacedHenry Cavillas Superman with David Corenswet and cast Milly Alock as the new Supergirl after Sasha Calle portrayed the character in DCEU’sThe Flash. One of the actors who is now part of DCU played a major role in the DCEU and is getting candid about getting their dream role.
Jason Momoa and Jack Black sat down for an interview withEntertainment WeeklyforA Minecraft Movie, which is coming out next month. During the interview, Momoa was asked about playing Lobo in Gunn’s DCU. He is perhaps best known for being the DCEU’sAquaman. Momoa starred in two solo movies portraying the King of the Seven Seas —Aquaman(2018) andAquaman and the Lost Kingdom(2023). “I just think I’m the right person to play the role,” Momoa told EW about portraying Lobo. HisMinecraftco-star added, “Born to do it,” and Momoa agreed, repeating the same words, “Born to do it.” TheJustice Leaguestar even said that if there were a role in which he would be typecast, he would prefer it to be Lobo because he and the DC Comics character have a lot of things in common. Momoa said:
If we’re going to typecast me in anything, let’s put me in Lobo. Motorcycles, smoking cigars, partying, dreadlocks… loves a fight, funny.
Momoa even asked people on theMinecraftset to call him by his character, Lobo. He even did it to Black, once stating “Lobo has to go take a deuce.” TheFast Xactor announced hisLobo casting forSupergirlin a post on Instagram in December 2024. He shared a screenshot of a previous interview where he spoke about wanting to play the interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Momoa said it “was always my favorite” role. “I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'” he added. In the same interview, Momoa said he was willing to audition for the role if needed. Gunn admitted that shortly after the DCU was announced, Momoa texted him about the role, so casting the celebrity to portray the anti-herohad been part of his plan.
Jason Momoa Basically Just Is Lobo At This Point
Momoa is right to say that he was born to play Lobo. It’s pretty easy to agree as he has the build, physique, and height of Lobo. They do not need to work hard to transform him into Lobo because he already has his messy hair and beard and a powerful presence. In a separate post on Instagram,Momoa channeled Loboby sharing a video of him holding a lit cigar. The cigar is a trademark of Lobo as he is often seen holding one in his hand or clenching it between his teeth. Also, just like his DCU character, Momoa loves bikes and this is evident in his HBO Max’sOn the Roam docuseries, where he explores art, adventure, and craftsmanship by traveling throughout the country using his big bike. It’s easy to picture Momoa as Lobo. He has the look, feel, and personality of theDCbad boy. Momoa recently shared that his Lobo look is “pretty dead on [and] exactly like the character.” This only raises fans’ expectations, but its hard to see this one not working out.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowis scheduled to hit theaters on June 24, 2025.
