Summary

Jenna Ortega will return as Wednesday Addams in Netflix’sWednesdaySeason 2. Although the new season hasn’t premiered yet, talks are underway about Season 3, but Ortega just gave a disappointing update about it.

Wednesdayis one of the most successful seriesNetflixhas ever produced. The supernatural mystery dark comedy was well-received due to its humorous, engaging plot and Ortega’s lead performance as the titular character. It quickly became one of the most-watched shows on the streaming platform when it premiered in 2022. In January 2023, Netflix officially renewedWednesdayfor another season.WednesdaySeason 2 is coming out laster this year, and while many are looking forward to a third season, it is still unconfirmed, according to the lead star.

Ortega recently sat down for an interview withColliderand was asked about a potential third season forWednesday. TheScreamstar, however, said she was not sure about Season 3 and is in the dark just like the others. Ortega said:

We haven’t gotten an official thumbs up or anything like that, but I know that the writers are… With a show like that, you kind of want to get ahead of the game. So, I think that they’re kind of messing around and throwing out ideas.

Since Ortega can’t offer a definite update aboutWednesdaySeason 3, she talked about the production for Season 2. The second season is coming out this year, but Ortega said production isn’t quite done with it yet. She said, “We’restill in the edit.I was doing ADR for it two weeks ago. That’s the funny thing about these jobs is you’re done, you wrap, but you’re not really done. So, I’ll probably be working on it until the end.” Ortega added that Season 2 pays homage to classic horror flicks of the ’70s and ’80s likeCarrieandProm Night. She also shared an anecdote about “Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head,” reminding her ofFull Metal Jacket. Ortega added:

It’s insane. So bizarre. I just feel like there are a lot of scenes and frames, and there’s a whole episode based off of slashers, and we make a lot of horror references. So, everything about it, I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust, and therefore, we felt like we could do bigger, more elaborate sequences, which is nice.

The Hype For Wednesday’s Second Season Is Real

With Ortega’s new revelations aboutWednesdaySeason 2, it’s inevitable for fans to have higher expectations. Also, by the time the season arrives, it will have been close to three years since the inaugural season dropped, so it better be worth the wait. Fans are excited to see an increased presence of family members like Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Addams (Luis Guzman). The show’s rabid fandom also wants a shift towards more horror-centric narratives, and it seems they are getting that in Season 2. It would make sense for a project centered around members of the Addams family to, you know, get a little bit more dark than the first season did.

Many are also looking forward to the introduction of new characters, includingLady Gaga, who wanted to keep her role “extra secret.” However, she shared that she loved Ortega and had enjoyed her time while filmingWednesdaySeason 2. It goes without saying that bringing a pop star on board of Gaga’s magnitude will only increase the amount of eyeballs on the project. Not that Netflix will be complaining about that, obviously. Fans will soon learn more about Lady Gaga’s role in the show.
