Desperate people must participate in a twisted competition where they play a bunch of children’s games, with elimination leading to their death.
As one would expect, players must be smart about how they go about things and attempt to form alliances to survive. However, no matter how much they steel their resolve for the games to come, there are times when the only reason why anyone survives is dumb luck.
8Park Jung-bae
His Luck Eventually Runs Out At The End Of Season 2
Gi-hun’s best friend decided to help his friend locate the Recruiter after the protagonist came back traumatized following his victory at the games. He doesn’t understand why Gi-hun is so agitated, but things become clear after they find this figure and end up tailing him.
The Recruiter is smart and turns the tables on them before forcing them to play a twisted game of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Minus One. After numerous draws, Jung-bae accidentally brings out two of the same hand, only for his companion to falter at the last second and not let his friend die. This luck helps Jung-bae survive and go far in the games,only for a failed rebellion to spell his end.
7Jang Geum-ja
Despite Being Old And Frail, She Survives Most Of The Trials
As one would expect, being old and weak should ideally prevent anyone from being competent in the games. However, that doesn’t stop Jang Geum-ja from pulling her weight in every game.
Even after being separated from her son, she managed to survive in the game of Mingle and continues to be alive against all odds. Hopefully,she’ll remain alive in Season 3, even if the odds are stacked against her.
6Park Yong-sik
Drags His Mother Into The Games And Almost Loses Her, But Gets Lucky
Park Yong-sik is one of the most selfish characters in the show,dooming his old motherjust to play the games and earn some cash. However, this decision comes back to almost bite him when they are both forced apart during the game of Mingle.
Thankfully, he gets lucky and doesn’t lose his mother at this moment, swearing to vote against the games from now on. Whether his luck will carry over in Season 3 is anyone’s guess.
5Cho Sang-woo
Used A Combination Of Luck And Wits To Make Progress In The Games
Cho Sang-woo could’ve reached for the stars with his education, but he failed as an investment banker and made several poor decisions that ultimately led to him being labeled as a criminal. As bad as his luck was before the games, there’s no denying that his fortune turned around as he made progress in this deadly competition.
He was lucky enough in most games and used his brains to succeed in other competitions, includinga chilling betrayal where he doomed Ali to a cruel death. While he eventually decided to kill himself to help Gi-hun win the games, that should take nothing away from his savage actions that were borne out of greed as he fought to earn a ton of cash.
4Kang Sae-byeok
Luck Played A Huge Role In Ensuring Her Progress
Astreet-smart girlwho becomes one of the major characters of Season 1 despite being on Gi-hun’s bad side, Kang Sae-byeok turned into a favorite as the games progressed. She formed valuable alliances and got lucky in some games that helped her pass.
Despite how traumatizing this moment was for her, there’s no denying that she got especially lucky in the game of Marbles after pairing up with someone who didn’t mind losing to help someone else win. Unfortunately, even after being at the end of the queue in Glass Stepping Stones, she sustained a grievous injury and was unceremoniously taken out by Sang-woo not long after.
3Lee Myung-gi
Despite Having A Target On His Back, MG Coin Has Survived Against All Odds
The internet celebrity known as MG Coin gave his followers poor advice when it came to investing in crypto, causing numerous people to lose their funds in no time. After being spotted by his ex-fans inthe games, everyone assumed that Lee Myung-gi would meet his end sooner rather than later inSquid Game.
It felt like his reckoning had come once Thanos got his hands on him, but he managed topull out a fork and fatally stab his assailant. Somehow, he survived the ensuing carnage and is still a participant in the games, even though he has many haters out for his head.
2Han Mi-nyeo
Managed To Get Past A Game Without Being Eliminated Because She Didn’t Have A Partner
Despite being irritating to the people around her, Han Mi-nyeo was an entertaining character in the series. Her wild card personality was a joy to witness as she passed every game by the skin of her teeth and got lucky even though she doesn’t boast a ton of physical power.
After not partnering up with anyone in Marbles, everyone assumed that she was dead. However, while other characters lost their friends and loved ones, Han Mi-nyeo simply didn’t participate and was alive for the next stage of the killing games.
1Seong Gi-hun
The Protagonist Enjoys A Ton Of Plot Armor From Time To Time
Given Seong Gi-hun’s status as the show’s protagonist, he’s bound to enjoy a ton of plot armor. Thankfully,Squid Game’s writing is so brilliant that fans don’t mind even if this character gets lucky from time to time.
It helps that moments where his sweat paves the path to victory for him in Honeycomb and the intense game of Russian Roulette against the Recruiter are shot so well that his luck almost feels earned. He may have failed at times, but Gi-hun has succeeded more often than not and is bound to enjoy his fair share of luck in Season 3 too.
