Thanks to that status, the fire-breathing dragondoesn’t only appear in its standard form inPokemon GO, but comes in different varieties for players to add to their collection. Among these, the Gigantamax version notably grants the fire-type Pokemon a giant form and is particularly hard to obtain compared to the other variants. Recently, a luckyPokemon GOplayer revealed catching this extremely rare type of Charizard in the game.

On Reddit, user Asum-sum shared that they successfully captured a femaleShiny Gigantamax Charizard inPokemon GO, wowing other players in the community. In their post, they showed their recently claimed rare Charizard, which comes with a unique appearance and a special G-Max Move called Wildfire. The skilledPokemon GOplayer’s achievement drew the attention of the community, as the Shiny Gigantamax Charizard can only be obtained by defeating it in a Max Battle that takes place at specific in-game locations called Power Spots. These six-star battles are tough encounters and generally require a concentrated effort by a large group of trainers to come out victorious. Replying to one of the comments, Asum-sum revealed that they needed 12 trainers to be able to defeat this giant version of Charizard.

On the Pokemon GO subreddit, the talented trainer’s feat was met with a strong reception, gaining over 9.5K upvotes and a number of inspired replies. “You won. You can quit playing for the year,” one user said, while another user jokingly asked if the player would be up for trading their Gigantamax Charizard with the former’s Weedle. A few different users shared their own instances of when they caught a Gigantamax Pokemon, showing their rare types of Venusaur andBlastoise inPokemon GO.

Although Gigantamax Pokemon may not be in everyone’s collection, one particular Pokemon that has been exclusive to select regions is set to become available everywhere soon. Earlier in March, developer Niantic confirmed thatSkiddo would be making its global debut inPokemon GOas part of the Pokemon GO Fest 2025 that kicks off in May.
