The news created a real buzz aroundAvengers: Doomsday, which was the aim of the reveal. However, even though it’s exciting to have so many different characters involved in the film, there are concerns surrounding the cast being this big and whether or not it will end up hurting the quality.
Avengers: Doomsday Runs The Risk Of Being Overstuffed
Avengers: Doomsdayis set to be a significant multiverse story, which means characters are being pulled in from all directions, including many formerX-Men actors such as Alan Cummingand James Marsden. Add them to the likes of the Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts* teams, who are also joining the cast, and there are now a lot of different characters and moving parts at play. Managing to make all of that feel like a cohesive story where each character manages to feel like they’re contributing something worthwhile is going to be a challenge for the Russo Brothers, as this film already feels like it could end up being overstuffed. Marvel Needs To Have A Set Avengers Lineup To Make Them Mean Something
When the Avengers were initially formed in the MCU, a smaller group was put togetherfeaturing Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye, with Nick Fury pulling the strings in the background. The group was smaller because there weren’t as many MCU films then for the studios to draw from, but what it did was make them feel like the most important heroes in the franchise. Even when other characters were revealed, those were still the ones that people saw as the absolute best, the most powerful, and the ones capable of solving all of the world’s problems. However, adding even more peopleto the Avengers lineupis diluting that, and it’s having a negative impact to where it doesn’t mean anything anymore.
Being in anAvengersmovie is just something that every box standard character seems to be getting rewarded with now, even if they’re not at the top level of heroes. That doesn’t make the Avengers movies feel special, though, asAvengers: Doomsdaydoesn’t involve only the elite superheroes. Instead, it’s a mismatch of different teams, with some characters barely having any name value in the eyes of general audiences.
Less Is More In The MCU
The idea of having as many heroesinvolved inAvengers: Doomsdaymight seem like a good idea on paper, but less is more when it comes to these movies. Having a slightly smaller cast where the script can be tighter and the characters can be fleshed out more is a much smarter choice. It’s why the connection between the original Avengers team was so strong, as they were able to develop an extremely close bond via all of the scenes they were in together. However, that’s not going to be possible in Avengers: Doomsday, as there are simply too many people involved in the movie. It all made sense when there was a fight against Thanos because the Avengers needed help as he had become too powerful.
Thanos was built up over time with several different movies and was shown as a genuine threat. However, that hasn’t been the case with Doctor Doom heading intoAvengers: Doomsday, which is why there’s even less of a need for this many heroes to be part of the film. Instead,the Russo Brothers will have to focuson developing a brand new villain while also combining a whole range of heroes and the multiverse aspect of the movie, which is going to cause some confusion. It would be beneficial for Marvel Studios to strip things back as far as the Avengers are concerned, creating a smaller team once again. Having fewer people involved would instantly make them feel more important, which would benefit their individual movies or television shows, while fans would always get excited about them coming together in broaderAvengersmovies. It would mean that movies likeAvengers: Doomsdaywould mean even more, and that’s ultimately what Marvel Studios should be looking to achieve.
