Summary

Fans ofMinecraftrecently got a look at some of the content planned for the game in 2025, and plenty of discussion has emerged around the highly popular happy ghast mob, which will provide players with a friendly ghast variant that can even be ridden through the sky. ManyMinecraftenthusiasts have shared their own perspectives on the upcoming mob’s design and impact on gameplay, though some believe that Mojang shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to make one existing item relevant when this ghast-themed content drop releases later in the year.

Revealed during this year’s Minecraft Live event, the happy ghast mob is shaping up to be a helpful yet equally wild addition to the game. Players will first need to find thenew dried ghast block in theirMinecraftworlds, and bring it back to the Overworld. There, they’ll be able to submerge it in water for a while, until it becomes fully hydrated and grows into a ghastling. These adorable baby ghasts will be totally friendly, and players will be able to feed them snowballs to help them grow into adult happy ghasts. From there, players will be able to equip them with saddles and ride around the skies of their worlds atop their new ghast companions.

There aren’t a great deal offlying mobs inMinecraft, though, and those capable of flight can obviously be tricky to contain and keep track of. This has prompted some concern within the player base about the happy ghasts they befriend becoming easily lost, and so one interesting idea put forward by a player known as Resto_Bot suggests a way to solve this potential problem while also providing new utility to an existing item. The idea proposes a new “ghast caller” item that can be crafted using a goat horn, which would allow players to call happy ghasts to their location.

Mojang Shouldn’t Forget About Old Minecraft Features As They Build Upon The Game

Thegoat horn item is somewhat infamous among theMinecraftcommunityfor being largely useless, particularly in single-player worlds. The new happy ghast mob would offer the perfect opportunity to make this item more functional, which would in turn encourage players to explore different parts of their worlds to seek out goats and obtain their horns in the first place. That said, an item capable of calling happy ghasts likely wouldn’t be foolproof, as the limitation of world simulation and render distances would make it impossible for happy ghasts to react to a call if they’ve strayed far enough away.

Losing happy ghasts likely won’t be too big a problem in practise, though, but Mojang would do well to expand on the utility of existing features as they continue to develop the game. The happy ghasts are planned to come to the game officially in the second content drop this year, although players won’t have to wait very long for an experimental version to release that features them. These happy ghasts are already widely beloved by fans, with one even creating a customLEGO set featuring the upcomingMinecraftmob.
