The upcomingA Minecraft Moviehas received a rocky reception so far, and most of it doesn’t have to do with where the story is apparently going. The biggest complaint that fans have with theMinecraftmovie is that the live-action format and associated art style don’t do justice to the iconic blocky world. The presence of Steve and other humans was the impetus, but the unappealing features of the sheep and the zombies fueled the fire. And now, things have only heated up.
The latest trailer showed a baby zombie jumping on the back of a chicken, with agroup ofMinecraft’s Illager mobin the background. Now, baby zombies are hated in the game as well, but that’s more for their speed and damage rather than their features. The case here, however, is far different. Many fans have hailed the baby zombie as particularly ugly. These visuals may not work out for the film, but perhaps anA Minecraft Movie-based texture pack would work well, even if as a joke.
A Minecraft Movie Texture Pack Could Be Fun
A Minecraft Movieis set to be released on June 28, 2025. Given that the next Minecraft Live is set for March 22, Mojang could get in on the joke and announce a movie-based texture pack. While thelive-actionMinecraftmovie’s reception has been mixed, the pack may be well-received. After all, the sheer range available on the Minecraft Marketplace and other sites proves that fans have diverse tastes, and what may be just fine now may have a booming popularity later on.
Further, if Mojang does decide to add anA Minecraft Movie-based texture pack,it could test the waters first. The team could drop it on April 1 forMinecraft’s April Fools' Joke update, and if popular, release a fleshed-out version on the Marketplace. This would ensure that fans can have the fun they want without fully committing to the hassle that comes with testing out new texture packs.
What A Minecraft Movie Texture Pack Could Look Like
For starters, anA Minecraft Movie-based texture pack could make the environment look more realistic. This doesn’t meanadding RTX textures to the video game, per se, but that everything should look a bit imperfect and frazzled. For example, in the movie, the older zombies look uglier, yes, but they also seem more tired than just undead. The baby zombies look more in line with their game version — absolutely feral.
In keeping with the theme, the surrounding mobs could be just as weird. The Endermen could seem a tad more grey than jet black, having lost their zeal living under the yoke ofMinecraft’s Ender Dragon. Meanwhile, aquatic creatures like squids and puffer fishes could be more vibrant and funny-looking. Considering Jack Black’s presence in bothA Minecraft MovieandKung Fu Panda, it would be particularly hilarious if turtles looked like Master Oogway from the latter.
That’s not all — there’s more to the blocky world than mobs. If fans look closely, the blocks and environment inA Minecraft Movielook weathered. There are puffs of dust upon mining, there is debris on the floor, the rockets and the crafting table have scratches, etc. Through this, theadaptedMinecrafttexture packcould make the world appear more lived in. The mobs could look more hilarious or menacing and crazy (skeletons spring to mind), the fields could look soft and beautiful, and the blocks could look actually used and, well, alive.
Mojang May Be Holding Cards Close To Its Chest With A Minecraft Movie
It’s mere speculation at this point, but there’s a chance thatMojang may develop moreMinecraftmovies in the future, whether continuous or standalone. Perhaps they may even come with different art, filming, and narrative styles, a laLove, Death & RobotsandSecret Level. If this does happen, Mojang could expand upon its range of texture packs forMinecraft, giving fans something creative and fresh with each run.
