Summary

One of the major elements that brings the blocky world ofMinecraftto life, the variousmobsthat populate every corner of the world can either help players, hurt players, or otherwise add more immersion to the game. However, with so many new mobs with modern design sensibilities, older mobs can feel archaic compared to recent additionslike the Creaking or Sniffer.

Now that many of the classic farm animal mobs inMinecrafthave received a refresh to their models and variations, along with previous tweaks to the Vex and Bat, the potential for other mobs to have a facelift in either heir visuals or behavior is on the table. While many mobs could receive any number of updates, there are ten that need the attention most.

Creeper in deepslate cave

10Creeper

A Slight Refresh

The mascot ofMinecraft, theCreeperis iconic for its unique ability to destroy the world around it and for its simple but instantly recognizable design. The only lacking element to the Creeper, however, is that the changing landscape of the game’s physical terrain has left it looking outdated.

Initially, the Creeper blended into the bright greens ofMinecraft’sold grass and leaf colors, but as block palettes have become more muted and realistic, the neon squares on the Creeper stand out far more than its intended camouflage would desire.Updating the Creeperto either pull from the biome color map, allowing it to truly blend in with nearby foliage, or updating the general design to be more in line with the standard Plains biome colors would be ideal for such an iconic character in gaming.

Two Zoglins in a forest in the Overworld

9Zoglin

The Rarely Seen Monster

Perhaps the least known mob in the game, given the requirements to even see it, is theZoglin, which is the zombified form of the extremely common Nether-dwelling Hoglin. Unlike the Piglins, with their zombified forms that spawn constantly in the Nether, Zoglins only appear when a player forces a Hoglin through a portal to the Overworld.

There isn’t much reason for the Zoglin to be so uncommon, though the fact that it attacks everything it sees does add a hazard factor for unprepared players. That said, Zoglins naturally spawning in one of the blander Nether biomes, like the Wastes, and only at certain height levels would add an element of danger to an otherwise tame location.

Minecraft Shulker In End City

8Shulker

Vibrant Additions

A necessary monster for players in the post-game, theShulkermay blend in perfectly with its End City environment, but the silly potential for this mob already exists in the game and, in some ways, is reminiscent of the ever-colorful sheep.

When Shulkers are assigned a team via commands, the color of their shell is also changed to any of the 16 colors available from the corresponding dyes. With such demand for an End update, more colorful Shulkers could add a special touch to the dreary dimension.

7Spider

A Classic Mob Left Behind

The least threatening of the classic hostile mobs that spawn at night, theGiant SpidersofMinecraftleave something to be desired, especially considering the lackluster sword enchantment meant to deal with them.

Spiders, both the typical version and the Cave Spider variant, should receive any number of upgrades. No longer taking fall damage, scaling walls with better animations, hunting down insect mobs like bees or silverfish, and potentially even more, spiders are in desperate need of anything to bring them even remotely up to speed with the rest of the mobs inMinecraft.

Biome Variants Are Desperately Needed

A fairly uncommon mob, thePolar Bearhas immense potential for a variant update now thatbiome variants for various mobsare on the table. With farm animal variants now out in full force, Polar Bear variants should be next on the docket.

Ranging from grizzly bears to black bears and more, bear variants could add a sprinkle of danger to otherwise familiar spaces, such as classic forest biomes, taiga biomes, or even caves.

Minecraft Pale Garden Crow

5Parrot

Time For A Gothic Update

Outside of an update to improve the flight capabilities ofParrots, updating these birds with the same idea of biome variants would be ideal for adding more avian life and variety to the game.

While few birds could functionally work identically to a Parrot, the concept of a raven re-skin of the Parrotwould encompass everything a Parrot can do, only in a slightly more emo fashion. Potentially spawning in dark forests or the new Pale Gardens, ravens could add a slight but welcome twist to the usually colorful birds.

4Rabbit

A Lackluster Animal

A slightly inconvenient but fairly cute mob for players to get food and leather from, theRabbitis slightly awkward compared toMinecraft’sother peaceful mobs. With a tendency to die by accident and not quite looking the part of a Rabbit, these tiny mobs are in need of some help.

While Rabbits certainly don’t have to look as simplistically cute as a bunny mob would suggest they should, any attempt to modernize and improve the model and texture of the Rabbit would be ideal. Beyond appearances, the strange decision to remove the ability to tame Rabbits easily limits the personality of these very lovable animals. This feature should return, along with the detail of having Ravagers fear Rabbits. For their own sake, it may also be helpful to grant Rabbits some level of fall-damage reduction or immunity, given how quickly these mobs fling themselves to their deaths if a player so much as looks at them.

Minecraft, Snow Golem

3Snow Golem

The Forgotten Helper

Given the failure rate of the two Golem concepts inprevious Mob Votes,it is not surprising that theSnow Golemremains in outdated limbo. Mostly summoned as a joke, these would-be protectors could use any number of updates to improve and pack some power behind that adorable face.

A small start to bettering this living snowman would be the ability to freeze any mobs it attacks, akin to freezing in powder snow, or otherwise causing a slowness effect like the Stray, only with its snowballs instead of tipped arrows, would go a long way to reviving the Snow Golem.

2Witch

High Potential Slowly Being Wasted

A mob indirectly given attention withthe addition of the Creaking, theWitchhas incredible potential to grow beyond a simple hostile mob and occasional ally to Illagers.

As every Illlager was made to fear the Creaking, including unused Illagers like the Illusioner, the Witch was purposely excluded from this change. Since the Witch lacks the exact complexion of Illagers, and instead looks like an in-between of Villagers and their dastardly counterparts, the option to have Witches become a neutral mob, much like Piglins, would add much more to these outcasts, could unlock magic for players, and possibly a Witch Hat cosmetic helmet like the Turtle Shell.

Minecraft Chorus Fruit On The Ground Next To Enderman

1Enderman

Adding Depth To An Iconic Creature

Easily one of the most popular mobs inMinecraft, theEnderman’sstatus as a neutral mob could easily expand if an End update comes to fruition, thanks to the presence of the situationally-hostile barterers, the Piglins.

With various Endermen variants found inMinecraftspin-offs, the addition of a trader Enderman variant could add a lot to the barren End. Additionally, this trader Enderman could suggest more with the ongoing theory of the Ender Dragon controlling the Endermen; the trader could be uniquely peaceful, if much rarer to find. Given that Endermen are interdimensional travelers and are the only mobs to naturally spawn across all three dimensions, the thought of trading with them for materials not found within the player’s current dimension would feel appropriate—so long as eye contact is avoided.
